Re: Charlie is poorly
cost 60 pound for antibiotics and the paste
Our four-legged bubs are pretty heavy on the wallets are they not. Sophie is probably making a good career choice!
Re: Charlie is poorly sophie is making a very good choice,........it was 80 pound,.....up to now jasper as cost 2500, in the 10 moth we have had him....
Re: Charlie is poorly Rang the vet to ask if I could collect a tube of Pro Kolin, they wouldn't unless I took Charlie in which at the moment is unecessary. I will order it online but it won't come until Wednesday, is that going to be too late to make Charlie feel a little better? I will order it anyway as by the sounds of it it's a good idea to have it in the cupboard. He looks so miserable just sleeping in his bed under a blanket :'(
Re: Charlie is poorly Pro kolin is good, there's also something called canikur which does the same thing. That's a shame your vet won't let you have it without seeing Charlie but I guess that does make sense - thy would want to do a thorough check up to make sure nothing else is wrong. My vets advice was always to starve the dog for 24 hours then introduce a sensitive food (chicken and rice, chappie meat, or a veterinary sensitive food) in small meals 4 times a day, then once solid for five days introduce the regular food gradually over another five days. Hope he feels better soon!
Re: Charlie is poorly I'm surprised the vet won't let you have pro kolin without seeing Charlie as it is only classed as a supplement. I too always keep a tube in stock. I've always found the dogs will happily lick it out of their bowel it seems tasty. I find it depends on the vet whether they say starve for 24hrs or feed bland. Although if the dog is being sick aswell as diarrhea it is usual to starve. My old vet ( the really good one) always told me to give Murphy a cup of tea and arrowroot biscuit (human biscuits). You can put a little bit of milk and sugar in the tea but it's better plain it helps the stomach and obviously is fluid. Arrowroot binds the stomach and the biscuits are plain. I used arrowroot biscuits as treats for Murphy because of his predisposition to tummy upset. I hope Charlie is feeling better today Helen Jen
Re: Charlie is poorly Starving Charlie for the recommended 24 hours so a small meal at 5.00 pm of chicken and rice. He pretty much slept or just stayed quitely in his bed yesterday. He was up at 3.30 am to go outside and then settled, didn't even get out of bed for his normal greeting of everyone this morning No breakfast and no walk. However, I have just retured with Hattie from our walk and he is up and seems a little brighter but not tempted by Hattie's attempts to get him to play, on the upside he has orange squeaky snake and is having a little play with that as I type this update I have ordered the Pro Kolin and it will be here tomorrow. I have to say he is being a typical 'male' patient : Charlie says thank you for all your kind messages
Re: Charlie is poorly Hope you are feeling better Charlie Pops as the day has gone on? Best wishes from your Dubia Pals x
Re: Charlie is poorly He had a big drink this afternoon and promptly threw it up but at 5.00 pm I gave him a small portion of steamed chicken and rice and he had a drink, fingers crossed it has stayed down. I will have to check the yard tomorrow to make sure but if he did keep it down what shall I feed him in the morning and for his dinner? Thanks for all your help and lovely messages. xx
Re: Charlie is poorly Sorry I can't offer you any advice . Just wanted to say I hope he managed to keep his food down and that he is better in the morning x
