Hi everyone, I have not been on the forum for a month or so, but just wanted to assure you even with everything that has been happening I have been trying to do a little Charlie training as we all know he needs it, so here is an update. STOP WHISTLE - Charlie is 100% bang on with this and I am eagerly awaiting Pippa's next Exercises. I have even proofed it a little in the paddock and with some unexpected distrations. A neighbour having tree work done (noisey) and a mum and her small daughter walking through, no problem Charlie focused on me. We do this training every evening on the drive with his supper and he is so 100% and am plucking up the courage to move into the garden as there are lots of distractions , we also do lots of on lead heel work with sits, downs etc. brilliant response. LONG DISTANCE DOWN/WAIT - This is going very well and Charlie will wait in a down until released, no matter what the distance. TOTAL RECALL - 100% bang on too and we are now on two man garden recall exercise. DUMMY - I have been using the clicker to help with dummy introduction which is going well. First day I sat and so did Charlie, we had a bit of a stare off and then he touched it with his nose (C&T) did this a couple more times and we were off, he opened his mouth, so this is where we are at, not sure what to do next though. He does whine when he is opening his mouth for the dummy so not sure if he did that and I C&T in error. GARDEN - I have been desensitising him in the garden, opening the gate and letting him have his fun and if he barks "Charlie NO", inside and close gate, so I have been lenghening the time he is allowed out and it is working and he is even checking back to find me where ever I am in the house every 2 mintutes. I hope this is a good thing. LEAD WORK OUT ON WALKS - This is going really well too, David is now dropping his lead for about 15 minutes of his walk and Charlie just mills around him and often behind him and no bolting, doing lots of verbal recalls and taking his breakfast for all his good obedience work along the way. OBEDIENCE - Lots of sits, stays, downs, paw and even spinning round for his food but above all RECALLS, I recall him and can send him straight into a down then up into a sit. I am using my hand signals too and he has no problems either and is focused on me. RETRIEVING - Using the clicker to help with this, I don't think he will ever be obsessed but it is going well so will keep going with it. Sorry that was a bit of a ramble, but all in all not bad for the naughty Lab x Pointer Rescue dog I know I still have a long, long way to go but I see the light glimering at the end of that very long tunnel. Thanks Helen xx

Now please tell me if there is anything in this report that I am doing incorrectly and also some advice on how to move the Dummy introduction on from puting his mouth round it to holding it please. All advice and help greatly received. Thanks Helen x [/quote] You could try and put the dummy on the floor and just see what happens. Just you, the dog and the dummy in a small confined area. That's what I did with Murffi and it clicked (excuse the pun) ;D If he lifts it off the floor be ready to put one hand underneath the dummy to take it and click with the other, because the click will end the exercise and he will drop it.
Re: Charlie's end of Term Training Report!!! Great to see the progress report....gives me some hope!!! :-\
