Re: Re: Charlie's June Training - Teeth Cleaning Angela! Wow! Wow! Wow! You are getting all surfaces! Ok, I'm upping my game. Thank you, thank you! Teeth cleaning weekend coming up!
Re: Re: Charlie's June Training - Teeth Cleaning I can't watch the vids. :'( I over used my download so everything is waaaaaayyyyy slow until the 6th. I will have to come back up and watch then. We are making progress slowly. I can now lift both sides of her lips and rub my finger on the outsides of her teeth, still keeping my finger I can also lift up and down her lips at the very front to see and touch the front teeth. She is not quite as happy with this but really only sticks her tongue in and out. I did take a little vid but can't load it even if I knew how How is Charlie progressing?
Re: Re: Charlie's June Training - Teeth Cleaning Thanks guys,Annette you are doing great,Rachael does it so professionally my method has evolved to something that works but that you wouldn't see in the text books!you may find the same and I don't think it matters as long as you can do it! Not getting nipped is key! ;D I used to at first but Dexter is chewing throughout so I've had to learn how work with that and learn his mouth! And the little finger sock is a great bit of kit,you can run the toothpaste all round and really get in there,I couldn't with the rubber tip version. In fact I'm having trouble locally finding a replacement,I'll have a look on line. All this because I'm too, scared to give him a bone! ;D Good luck Julie, you'll crack it x
Re: Re: Charlie's June Training - Teeth Cleaning Do you remember the name of the little sock? Really looks like a handy weapon in the teeth cleaning arsenal. Daily teeth cleaning is the pinnacle of doggie dental care - and you're the only one I know who really does it by the book, Angela (I get slack and miss days...). No need for bones with a brilliant regime like yours.

But if I fall a bit short, I'll still be doing ok, I reckon. Annette, I've just done just two more sessions - been at work - so not much further on. I'm planning to do three sessions a day today and tomorrow, so hopefully I can get somewhere by the end of the weekend. So I can get the toothbrush on his teeth now, but with a lot of licking! At least me, the toothbrush, and the dog are staying roughly in the same place though!
Re: Re: Charlie's June Training - Teeth Cleaning Your doing great then Julie. I haven't even brought the toothbrush into it yet. Just my fingers. She still does a lot of licking with the very front but stays sitting where she started so that's a good start I guess.

They were part of the tooth cleaning kit.
Re: Re: Charlie's June Training - Teeth Cleaning Thanks Heidrun! http://www.lintbells.com/products/toothcleaner
Re: Re: Charlie's June Training - Teeth Cleaning That does look really nifty. I haven't seen anything like that here. I will have to have a better look.
Re: Re: Charlie's June Training - Teeth Cleaning Fab, I just bought one on eBay. Was $15 or thereabouts. Sent from UK (free postage).
Re: Re: Charlie's June Training - Teeth Cleaning The tooth sock looks an excellent idea, think I will get one. Have never been a tooth cleaner with the dogs, but will definitely be so in the future.
Re: Re: Charlie's June Training - Teeth Cleaning Thanks,Heidrun,I bought it here but couldn't remember where and I've back tracked everywhere to no avail,it was part of a kit.they are really good because they don't slip off your finger like the the rubber tips do. Good luck everybody, happy tooth brushing, you've inspired a new wave of toothbrushers Julie ;D x
Re: Re: Charlie's June Training - Teeth Cleaning I think the inspiration is down to you and Rachael! Right, off to have another go. I want this cracked, and a proper teeth clean done by Sunday night, so I can move on to recall.
Re: Re: Charlie's June Training - Teeth Cleaning
Heeeey , hey baby, Hoo ha! I wanna knooooooow if you'll be my boy!
Yep!....got it fixed there! (could be worse ) We had a trip to the beach followed by a bath (a necessity) then a shot with the finger toothbrush and toothpaste!! Not convinced it was that popular But its going to happen again as I was actually quite shocked how much tartar was there :-[ :-[
Re: Re: Charlie's June Training - Teeth Cleaning Yay Charlie!!!!! Do you think you made a dent in the tartar, Jac?
Re: Re: Charlie's June Training - Teeth Cleaning I think so Rachael. Seemed quite loose. Now the weather is better she will get more bones though (garden food only : )
Re: Re: Charlie's June Training - Teeth Cleaning Only just seen this thread Well done on the recall charlie and julie I might have a crack at teeth cleaning, puzzle is a bit like charlie as she wants to chew the brush, and barley well he just hates it and does his best to lick the brush away :. And the recall with puzzle, especially from exciting visitors and from food (given up on barley's recall). And the 3 min stay with distractions, puzzle is fidgety and always moves in her stays, especially in the down as she changes sides crawls forward, moves into frog leg position and so on. Her sit stays she usually moves into the down so we need to work on them. You have inspired me julie to do some actual useful stuff with the mutts whilst on study leave and soon to be summer hols
Re: Re: Charlie's June Training - Teeth Cleaning Thanks Annabelle! The more company I have, the better. Will help me stay on track!
Re: Re: Charlie's June Training - Teeth Cleaning Feeling slightly guilty as I look at these...well done, all. I have never brushed a dog's teeth, I might have considered it with dog #3 which was meant to be a Border Collie puppy and turned into Simba There was absolutely no way I could have even thought of tooth brushing at the beginning, he would have bitten my hand off, never mind a finger! So, I have resorted to what I did with dog #2 which is to feed him some specially formulated "dental" kibble. It's made in such a way as to provide more abrasion against the teeth and so clean them as they eat. The one for dog #2 I used as his regular food, it worked really great! His teeth were excellent up to his death at 16 years. Unfortunately that company stopped making that, I have found another similar thing which I use as treats, 3-6 per day (they are quite big chunks). I want to have a look at his teeth and see how they are, I think this is working pretty good, though, as he never has bad breath. But I'm not opposed to teeth brushing, I think he might accept it now. Once I check his teeth I'll make a decision. And Jukue...yay! for the recall!! Doing the happy dance with you!! ;D
