Re: Charlie's June Training It sounds like you're doing so well after the enforced lay off I don't think it matters and if the long line gives you a sense of comfort and/or confidence as you get back to where you were that sounds very ok to me
Re: Charlie's June Training Yes, a big part of the long line is not being able to afford a failure - hoolies with other dogs is still firmly off the agenda. So it's just not an option I can allow to have a failed recall away from another dog. I guess I'm trying to turn that into something useful and get that recall to 100% even when I remove the line. There were 3 spaniels on the field today - they were hunting the rabbits 2 rugby pitches away from their owner, with the Kingston by-pass 5m on the other side of the bushes on one side, and 400 acres of Wimbledon Common on the other. I didn't see him recall them, but I sure hoped he could! They were the reason we left, they were heading our way, and I didn't think he was going to recall them before Charlie went nuts. They might have ignored us in favour of the rabbits though.
Re: Charlie's June Training Golly, how risky with those spaniels. I keep well away from roads. Safety first, I say. I'd keep the line till you're confident.

I didn't used to think about it too much, I guess because I didn't doubt his recall. I listen to them all the time now. Ah, tsk, Cornwall will help. Not long now.
Re: Charlie's June Training Julie, I've been swamped these past couple weeks and have completely missed this thread....catching up now and beaming with happiness for you! Charlie is amazing, I would say, your recall and stop whistle is basically still there, just needs a little refinement. AND progress with the harness (fits and starts, but progress) AND out and about with the long line....very happy for you!!
