Thank you all, he is booked in - the risk is small and I'm nearly out of my mind worrying about it now. At least it'll take the worrying away.

Now going to work and do my best to forget about it.

I get the results tomorrow night at 5.30pm.

Sorry I've been away so missed the discussion but joining in now I agree that you should get it done Julie.Dexter had 2 general in the space of 14 days with no ill effects .you will get peace of mind and a great record for anything that should crop up on the future.....let us know how he does and what the X-rays show.
Try not to be worried, decision is made now so relax x

I agree it's the right route to take, having the x-rays done. I'd have done the exact same thing. Having that knowledge could be invaluable now, and in ther future. Rather have them and not need them, than need them and not have them.

I think we all agree. The risk is minimal and it's good info for future reference.

Will keep fingers crossed the results are good. I know it's impossible but try not to worry Julie. I always tried to think that at the vets they are in safe hands, they know what they are doing and there's nothing I can do so no point worrying.

Also although he's had an anaesthetic the only aftercare is for him to sleep it off no op or wound to deal with.

    Good luck

    Jen

Good decision to go for it I think. I did Tarkie' s shoulders and elbows when she went lame and a week later she had a contrast arthrogram on her shoulder so 2 x GA in a week - neither up nor down with it. If they have a specialist orthopaedic surgeon at the practice then I would consent to add-on stuff at the time should they think it necessary - things like a contrast arthrogram which would give loads more information if they think he needs it and would save a subsequent GA. Good luck with the results, try not to worry about results you haven't got yet and I hope it goes well for you both. Tarkie sends licks and commisserations as she knows what it's like this boring old resting malarkey.....

Me too. Definitely the x-rays. Have his hip and elbow scores done at the same time. He will be fine, and you will know where you stand.

Thanks all - he is booked in for hips, knees and elbows and I'll ask about shoulders too. I'll also ask about giving consent for others if they are necessary or would help.

Plus having his teeth checked over (might as well since we are so slow on the teeth cleaning, I've never had a completely good look at them).

I can't think of anything else.

    Re: Charlie's limp

Well, Charlie was like a mad thing this morning - it's like his body can't contain the amount of energy he has. I had to put him on a harness to take him to the vet, there was no way he was going to remember he could walk nicely. He went berserk when he met an empty macdonald's carton...then a leaf...then a street sign... This dog does not do rest and quiet well.

I need to say thanks for all the good advice yesterday - you are all total stars - when I wasn't thinking that clearly. I'm not sure I was thinking that clearly this morning. Got to the vet and realised I still had OH's dirty, muddy, over sized, plastic garden clogs on from the garden trip before we left. ::)

I've booked him in for hips, knees, elbows and shoulders, and given permission for anything else that might be necessary. Plus a teeth check (his nails are fine, they never need doing - it's all the running around he does).

You'll find yourself still talking to him today whilst he is at the vets, but you'll get him home along with some good quality information soon. Let us know how it all goes, take care

I am doing my best to work this afternoon...it's a long afternoon....

The vet nurse just called and said he is awake, and fine, and very happy to have a big bowl of food. She said he was surprisingly energetic and lively for a dog who has just woken up from a GA. I felt like saying "think about it - you should meet him when he hasn't just woken up from a GA...." ::)
