Get well soon Charlie! But on another point... Have I overlooked something whilst I was trying to catch up after my absence?? When did he do this???
I've spent the evening constructing salmon mousse, sea biscuit and sea wrap kongs... Thought "that's not our Julie, she must really be feeling the stress". Then I scrolled down and saw the pictures. Silly me, I have only made salmon mousse for humans. My last dog occasionally fainted when vet excited. She, however, was never was obliging enough to do it when a Vet was around. I took her to the Vets who felt that as it was fairly infrequent it wasn't worth putting her trough a lot of tests that would probably reveal nothing. Glad it all went well for him.
I'm so pleased the op went well. Wishing you well and a very speedy and successful recovery for Charlie. That's a lot of rest time... 8 weeks! You will deserve a medal at the end!
I didn't realise it was such a long convalescence. Thought 8 weeks with Juno was a lifetime, but I know if anyone can get Charlie through this restricted period it's you. We're all here is well ready you need to have a rant or moan - the forum kept me sane at times. Wishing you and Charlie a speedy, uneventful convalescence - Juno sends lots of licks to Charlie to help him heal.
Sorry I missed this post and was trying to remember yesterday when Charlie's op date was. Glad all went well and good luck for his convalescence. Actually it I know it won't be left to luck - lots of planning, brain games and salmon mousse Kongs will be involved. Hope you all keep sane
Really pleased that the operation proceeded so well and Charlie has been in such thorough ,careful, hands.Whilst you are apprehensive about starting his rehab ( no need to be,you will do brilliant x) I bet you CANNOT wait to have you boy home, give him a big love from me xxxxx
Haha, Tina, no I didn't make the mousse - fish4dogs to the rescue again! I'm driving back with him now. He is bright and happy. Yes, the full rehab is 24 weeks. It actually takes 18 months for the leg to completely heal - so much new bone needs to be generated, it's not like a bone just healing - there is a big gap in the bone filled with titanium cage and the bone has to grow and fill this big gap and the cage.
Yey, Charlie's on his way home!! Now it begins. Good luck for your first night. Is the tent erected in anticipation?
Love to see that tail! Looking very bright and happy. Well, we are cheering you both on, Julie. I know you will make it through. Don't forget the forum is open 24/7 whenever you need a moan...
Great waggy bum. He's obviously enjoying that kong, bless him. He reminds me a bit of my friend's cat who had a back leg amputated after being hit by a car. His entire (remaining) back end was shaved. We called him the "turcat". Half turkey, half cat. I love Charlie's little furry sock on his shaved leg!!
He's a good boy. He is a complete fur and skin patchwork - his front legs have 2 patches shaved, his chest has two patches shaved (for the ECGs) and 2 on his neck aswell.... He has had his 5 minute walk and obligingly had a poo on cue, ice packs which he didn't object to at all, another kong, and a tramadol tablet - back in his cage now, but I should think the tramadol will knock him out. I'm feeling a bit better about it all now...
I think he first did something to make it hurt on the 27th March, playing with a Springer Spaniel on the Common - but seemed fine the day after (at the time, that is). Then, he was limping again after playing with a Labrador puppy over Easter so I kept him on lead walks until we were back in London after Easter. At first, the vet thought is was just a "micro tear" but it soon became obvious it was more. Now we know it was a 50% rupture.
Im glad Charlie is home safe and sound and looking so happy with his Kong. Good to see that tail wagging despite the cold draft he must have around his nether regions.
So pleased that the op was a success! Great to see he is home, and what a waggy tail! He looks really bright and relaxed.
