Hello everyone! I have 6 months old chocolate labrador girl named Lexy. She has beautiful dark coat, but on her tail, base of the fur is white, rest is fine. She is shedding, and some of that white based hair is coming off with the old hair. What do you think will it go off completely? + She has super sensitive skin. Annnnd I was planning taking her to the shows, how are judges treating it? I think it's not a mismark because pupps grow so fast at this time so it's kinda normal to get some abnormalities that will go away with time. Here is the picture of it, she is wet tho
I think it may be normal. Coopers guard hair always has a white end right at the base. When I pull out a hand full of them you can always find white at the base. Tilly's is similar but not as noticeable. Some are dark all the way and some are white at the base.
When she was little she didn't have any, it started showing as she was growing, maybe it will go away
Interesting. I've not seen that before. Is it just on her tail? (nice tail, by the way). Unfortunately I think it'd count against her in the show ring, but to what extent I don't know. Not sure how closely judges examine fur in that area (they should check for undercoat but they'd look for that on the body).
You may be thinking of the supracaudal gland. Commonly called Stud Tail and if @Lexy Lab does a search lots will come up. It can be in any dog. My neighbours' GR has it and that does not look the same, at all. If you are hoping to show, what does your breeder say? Any siblings with the same?
If you google 'chocolate labrador white undercoat tail' you'll see many people have asked this question over the years on various forums. I have never seen it myself, but it does appear to be something that crops up in the choccies time to time. And it came up once before on this forum, on a black a dog with a chocolate sire... http://thelabradorforum.com/threads/laylas-strange-tail.3898/
