    Such a tragic accident :'(

Neither dogs have collars on while in the house.

Barley used to have one on when he was an only dog, but after it causing irritation to his neck we gave up. ideally he would have a collar left on him as he has run out of the front door before and has got into next doors garden as well, which luckily is secure with no escape route but it would have been a different story if they did not have a gate on as no one was home when this happened, so we would have come home to find a missing dog with no collar on.

They both have collars on for when they are on walks, they have at least 2 collars each and they all have a tag with some id on it, not all legal but some are what we call holiday tags so only have mobile numbers and our name on it, their everyday collars have all the required info on.

I am glad that we don't keep collars on them as it could easily cause an accident when they play together.

I know choke chains are not popular but I have assessed the risks and have always used a chain on the 3 Labradors I have owned, as it gives me better control. I also remove the chain when the dog is in the house not because I fear that he may injure himself but because it tends to wear the coat around the collar.
