i have 7 month female lab. For a few weeks I have notice her hocks click when she walks upstairs. She only goes up or downstairs once a day . I have mentioned it to the Vet who says to give her a joint supplement and not to worry if she is not in any pain or limping. I am still worried as I have labs. before and have never had any with clicking joints. Has anyone had this with theirs and what was the outcome?

Mine have all clicked checked them with a vet and physio and they are fine. I do know people who have had clicks and their dogs have had problems though. So I think it's just a case of keeping an eye on things sorry I couldn't be of more help

I think I would be making an appointment to see another vet :( . The clicking may be something or nothing but to say don't worry unless your pup is in pain and/or limping for me is not very good advice. Dogs are known to be very stoic and it is very difficult to know when they are in pain; sometimes the first we know they are in pain is when they start limping :( or we see behavioural changes . I'm not sure why the vet would suggest a joint supplement for a young dog, for which there's not a lot of scientific evidence to support benefits, if he says there is no cause for concern.

I wouldn't worry about this in isolation at all. On it's own, a clicking joint means nothing.

My younger puppy's joints clicked as she was growing, then stopped. My older dog has clicks in both his front and rear joints, and because he has had cruciate operations they were investigated completely - and I mean a referral to a specialist vet, x-rays and then a CT scan - the clicking at the back is related to the cruciate surgery. The clicking at the front is nothing.

So while it might indicate a problem, it also is as likely to be nothing. I'd put it out of your mind unless another symptom presents itself.

My dog clicks from both both front and rear joints too. My vet is happy that she is just a "clicky" dog and unless she is limping or in obvious pain I'm not to worry about it. She was also prescribed joint supplements. As julie says, put it out of your mind unless something changes. Just do the normal care taking of your dogs young joints :)

What does your Breeder say? Oban clicked a lot, from various places in his body and they would appear and then cease. The breeder said some just do and by about a year old they all stopped. He's 9 now and still not clicking. AS you see though, I did start with asking his breeder about it.

I'll be watching this with interest. My dog sometimes clicks. Very faint sound, only hear it at night at bedtime when it's quiet. No idea which joints but suspect the hindlegs. Usually on rising from a lying position. I myself click a lot so I put it down to normal. And he had his joints x-rayed at 4 years and all were normal for his age - he is 5 now. I am interested to hear what your second opinion vet says. My boy is on a joint supplement, just 1/2-1 tsp per day.

Feel a lot happier . The Vet says clicking is from ligaments , nothing wrong with joints. she can have normal exercise but may always have the clicking noise.

Yes thank you. Now to try and stop her chewing and eating things .Recently cost over £300 on a X-ray to see what she had swallowed, but that's another story

Oh dear, that doesn't sound too good :( and an expensive x-ray. Hopefully it will get easier as she gets older but some do remain chewers so lots of re-direction to the right 'chew toys' and lots of vigilance :)
