Lady is very trusting and will let me handle her all over and check her out without complaint, however, touching her toes is a different matter and she sees it as an invitation to play. Also she seems to be a bit tickly as well. Anyway and to the point - her dew claws had grown into sickles and two or three claws on her paws had got a bit too long. Spent several sessions with her yesterday, firstly just putting the clippers next to her so she could sniff them out. Then holding them in my hand against her legs, then her toes. Then last night when she was pretty much settled for the evening - snip, snip and all done! Just posting this as I'm really chuffed at how easy it was in the end to get Lady to let me do it. Woohoo!
That's great! Mira used to have no issue at all with clipping until she was about a year old - she would barely open an eye and just lie there. Then, inexplicably, one day she acted like I was going to chop off her paws so we have had to do a lot of desensitising since. She doesn't need them doing as much now, so we always seem to end up back at square one each time. I need to start just taking off tiny amounts so I can do it more often to see if I can crack it
Good job David and Lady. That's how I did it with Charlie and of course a tube of Primula Cheese really helped!! x
Well done! Molly's front ones really need clipping (her back ones seem OK) and I have done it before but not for months, so feeling a bit nervous. It's not being able to see the quick that makes it a challenge.
