ok so getting exciting now, only 4 days until we get him. Any advice for collar and lead for an 8 week old, and expectations of growing out of the collar ? thanks Fra
Hi @labl0ver Congratulations I would get a flat collar and a house line. You will replace the collar perhaps twice or three times. The puppy will grow quickly and you will run out of holes in the flat collar.
I usually get a harness its much kinder on young dogs neck and you can use a house line with it and not hurt you pups neck.
We have a flat collar so he has a place for his tags, we also have just a cheap micro fibre harness just until he stops growing when we wil invest in a better harness, we got a seat belt clip to use with this harness, but for some reason none of those work in the back seat of my Kia only the front, so we got him another harness by the RAC which the seatbelt threads through
At first we just bought a cheap flat collar and a harness as they will soon grow out of them. The harness for walks, and the collar for quickness when going out for toilet training etc so you have a bit of control over where they go and what they are picking up/limit distractions. Also we bought 2 long/training lines, a 5m and a 15m. The whole lot was less than £20. Now he is bigger and walking more we are going for a better quality harness.
I recommend a clip rather than a belt buckle style so much easier to put on on off a wriggling pup whilst the pup is getting used to it.
