Oh, that is disappointing. I suppose it might have just have been an oversight? If the appointment turns out to be very short, perhaps you could ask them to consider the fee for it (afterwards, I mean, you don't have much choice but to go ahead now).

Sorry to hear money is tight, I hope you manage to juggle ok. It's tough, but it's our responsibility to make sure our dogs get the medical care they need (I know you are doing that, and I know that doesn't stop it being tough to manage).

No point in wondering whether you should have got a dog or not, you have her, she's your family now. Best of luck with it.

Yes she is my family now so she gets taken care of. Just a it unfortunate timing. I am finishing up law school and have a large untouched line of credit as well as high limits on credit cards, and a generous family so at least I am capable of paying for whatever she might need. I wouldn't have gotten her if I could not afford, in some manner, emergency surgery of any type, really. And I do have my post grad job lined up so will be able to start paying the money back in September if all goes well.

She seems a bit happier today as well, and less than 24 hours until the op. The reviews for this vet are glowing so hopefully I feel it's money well spent after I meet with the vet tomorrow.

That's a bit of a bummer and I do think they should've been able to tell you this at a much earlier time.... But I guess the important thing is the end result and it's good to know they are skilled at what they do.

It's great that you already have a job lined up after you finish your degree :)

Well, yes, finishing education / getting a job is always a time of financial squeeze - but of course life moves on, jobs improve, and usually money gets less tight. And Maisie will be around with you for a long time. It'll just be a temporary squeeze, hopefully.

An you sound a bit less down in your second post...it is a tough time and you're upset about Maisie being poorly.
How about using your lawyer negotiating skills to try and get a discount on the extra cost...it's not unreasonable to ask in the circumstances x
Hope everything goes well when she goes in x

Sorry this is so difficult for you. I wonder, whether the vets might allow you to pay back the fee in installments? I know my vet here does allow that.

Gosh that was an unpleasant shock you could have done without right now :(
I think asking if you can pay in instalments is not unreasonable. I know our vets give this option.
I hope all goes well with the surgery and she bounces back soon :)

I found out today she was supposed to come out for an appt * X-rays earlier this week (apparently the staff told her I said today would be easier... which is true except I was never offered an earlier appt just told it was all happening today!). Sigh.

I was offered for them to do blood work beforehand and I declined... I didn't think she needed it but that made me really upset when I got into the car and worried. Had a cry.

Chin up, it'll all be fine, you'll have your girl back free of pain, and it'll all have been worth it. :) You'll finish college, get a good job and the credit card bill will go away too.

I wouldn't worry about pre-op blood tests for a healthy young pup :) An old dog, yes.

She'll be just fine :) Do ask about some pain relief to take home for her for a couple of days. You are doing the right thing as leaving the tooth there is just not an option. It will all work out just fine :) It's a huge stress right now in a number of different ways, but also in a totally temporary way. :)

I was crying because the blood work question did freak me out and all of a sudden I was thinking SHE COULD DIE. But she is fine! I phoned up and we are on our way to pick her up, she did very well, is spayed, and her tooth is out! Apparently her adult tooth could come out a but weird although she has much better odds with this vet for it to be fine.

Very pleased at them doing her first and right away - I left her there at 9.15 or so and am picking her up at noon!

Ah great news. Hope she recovers well and no more scares! You will be so relieved to get her home for cuddles and be glad it is all over.

She's home and very sleepy... The worst bit is she can't have chew toys, not even plush toys, for TWO WEEKS!!!

... We will have to do a lot of training to wear her mind out. The vet also said she probably feels better now even with pain of extraction than she did while having the tooth in, so that's nice. She's sitting on the couch with me, occasionally howling and groaning and crying (to be expected). She has a buster collar but no need for it just yet.

Get lots of soft treats, and your clicker.

After Charlie chewed batteries (so no chews, no kongs, no kibble and definitely no balls) I trained sit on his placeboards, sit on my left (in heel position) and sit straight in front. Still great cues...

She is still doing well, we've been napping on the bed mostly and I've got a very kind boyfriend who has allowed me to phone him up to report every new thing she does - she got off the couch (with help)! She went to the door! We wrnt out! We are napping! Hah.

I've determined that after we survive the time of no toys... I am buying her this giant lambie I've had my eye on since she was a little babe! I thought it was so cute but she was a bit more toy destructive when little so never got it. But she's had a fuzzy teddy for weeks without hurting him (well she chewed the bobble off his santa hat and his bow is raggedy. But he's intact!

She won't eat or drink and has been throwing up. I'm going to call the vets in the morning but ugh. This is not good, my poor baby.

It might just be the GA wearing off....but absolutely call the vets when you can.

If you are really worried about her not drinking put a bit of fish (tuna flakes etc or whatever she likes) into 100ml of water at a time. Don't worry about her not eating, her throat and mouth might be sore, just try chicken and rice later.
