Re: Cracked tooth plus possible spay
She won't eat or drink and has been throwing up. I'm going to call the vets in the morning but ugh. This is not good, my poor baby.
Oh no,a GA can really knock them about ...check in with the vet to see what they advise x
Re: Cracked tooth plus possible spay So sorry she is feeling so rough, I hope things have settled. How is she? xxx
Re: Cracked tooth plus possible spay We've had a rough night of it... No more throwing up but moving about a lot. She has her collar on now as she was starting to lick, and she quite hates it. I soaked some kibble overnight and gave her a bit of the kibble water (without kibble). She drank it pretty enthusiastically, but I'm just waiting to see if it stays down before giving her more, or any food.
Re: Cracked tooth plus possible spay Sorry you've had a rough night, but good that she's drinking. Hope her tummy settles and she can cope with some light food soon, but drinking is the main thing right now.
Re: Cracked tooth plus possible spay She ended up throwing up after I tried to give her a few very soaked kibbles, so I'm sticking to water now… seems her tummy is just very unsettled. However, she is hungry now and she will keep drinking the kibble water concoction even after she threw up again, so hopefully she stays hydrated. Here are some pictures of the miserable baby…
Re: Cracked tooth plus possible spay She's a lot livelier this morning, I took her in to the vet because of the vomiting as they wanted to check her temp. She was wagging her tail to see the vet and while we were waiting for our ride outside kept trying to eat things off the ground… that won't make your tummy feel better, baby! She was given an anti-nausea shot, a pill for tomorrow (anti-nausea), will be having antacids once she can hold food down and some tramadol for pain. She's still drinking enthusiastically and it is staying down it seems (at least 2 hours since I started giving her water after she threw up, and she has kept it down and seems okay). The poor love is going to starve today… she is to have ONE TEASPOON of food in about 10 minutes, and see how that settles… then a little bit more in half an hour with her antacid and pain meds… then a single TEASPOON every 1-2 hours for the rest of the day… she is already HUNGRY. She's been licking the kitchen floors to see if there's any snacks available that way. Tomorrow she is able to have a full can (full day's food) in 4 separate meals, and then back to normal on Monday hopefully, mixing kibble and canned. She's eating Hill's GI food so that should be really easy on her tummy. The vet said "what an unlucky pup" and yes… she is very prone to vet visits so far in her short life! They are very nice though at that vet and took 2 of her meds out of the donated meds pile and didn't charge for the visit itself, so that was really great.
Re: Cracked tooth plus possible spay So glad she's better today I spent a LOT of time at my vets in Harley's first year - months of problems with her tummy (wheat intolerant was the end result!), needed staples as a dog bite her, gastroenteritis, eating a whole pack of starburst sweets (hyperactive for about 8 hours) lump on her head and pyometra! A good vet and nurses really do make the difference
Re: Cracked tooth plus possible spay Poor wee mite - she looks sorry for herself Hope she can keep the food down and things get better from now on
Re: Cracked tooth plus possible spay So far she has had 2.5 teaspoons of the canned food and has drunk more kibble water (she doesn't seem enthusiastic about her regular water, but she's drinking this stuff very happily). She has kept food down for almost 2 hours now, and also an antacid and pain pill, so that's really good. My struggle now is to not give in and feed her more and stick to the small amount every hour or so… she is SO HUNGRY that she is patrolling the kitchen to check for scraps anywhere… but none to be found! She has held food down all day (since 11 and it's now 5!) She's had maybe 1/4 of a can (should have about 1 can per day) so she's still quite hungry, but feeling better. She's much livelier and has even started biting again.. oh joy! The next 12 days without toys will be interesting!
Re: Cracked tooth plus possible spay Wow, what a difficult time. I hope you had a good night and that she's better soon.
Re: Cracked tooth plus possible spay Oh, poor Maisie. I hope she's feeling better soon and manages OK with her food over the next couple of days. I'm glad I've not had to use a cone of shame with Willow, but she's had her buster collar on a couple of times. She's not overjoyed with it, but she does tolerate it. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone, and will make sure I upgrade to a bigger one as the pups grow, just in case they ever need to have stitches again.
Re: Cracked tooth plus possible spay Maisie reports that while it is, admittedly, shameful to parade around with those cone on her head, it does have one function she recommends: it is a very efficient crumb catcher and provides a convenient way to store a little snack for later*. (As we are all Labradors here, no shame in admitting later = 2.5 seconds after eating your meal).
Re: Cracked tooth plus possible spay She's certainly been in the wars lately, poor baby. Hope things turn around for the better now.
Re: Cracked tooth plus possible spay Well if you have to wear the cone it's good it's a cute one like that! A Labrador when it is properly fed still acts like it is starving so it's so hard when you have to starve them or limit their food for, real. She sounds like she has turned the corner ,I hope she's ok when you extend her rations, good luck x
