I am seeing the vet on Friday to rule out if Otis has any physical problems that would be making his house training difficult like a UTI or birth defect. Im pretty convinced he is okay though. He is now nine months and not housetrained, so going by advice from here, I am going to get a pet gate, and crate for confinement. But how do I get him to take to it ? He has had the run of the bottom of the house for months.Im really not sure what I should be doing when I get it and the gate? The only place he has never ever weed is the kitchen. I really cant have him barking in a crate at night as the neighbours have a young child and would complain, as the child will be sleeping. So how long can I leave him in the crate ? , and do I then put him in the kitchen behind the gate ? Also how do I get him to go the door to ask to go out ? Sorry for all my questions, but this problem has been really worrying me, especialy as the last few days he seems to have changed his routine and been pooing indoors too. Thanks, Maggiex

Good luck with it, I hope you crack it.

I'm using this method to crate train my 10 month old boy (but I'm spreading it out over a week, rather than trying to do it in a weekend:(

I guess you could do the same with the gate across the kitchen - pretend the kitchen is a big crate. :)

Once Charlie was house trained, he asked to go out. But the house training came first - this gave him the motivation to want to go out to pee and poo, then he would "ask" by sitting on the back doormat and looking at me.
