Well I think Ive got so far crate training Otis, I might have rushed it a bit, but after about a day, he went in on his own if i tapped the side of the crate and said, bed. He mostly settles down after about five mins of barking and whining, but sometimes this is less and he settles very quickly. Ive been crating him over night, although i dont really need to as he rarely has accidents over night. Tomorrow, my dad is coming to put a babygate up for me, that will partition off my living room and kitchen, where the crate is. Im going to try the advice given on this site, following the rotation of putttig him out, two hours in the house then one hour crated, then out again, etc. I really hope this cracks it, as its such a worry him still not being housetrained at nine months. I may muzzle him when i take him out for walks as he tends to eat dog poo, and I really want him to stop this. I can usualy stop him getting to his own, if Im quick enough. I havent been doing that much training with Otis, Ive taught him to sit, and recall, but training him to go in the crate, has reminded me what fun it can be and how bonding it is, and Im going to look out some more training stuff we can do together, maybe fun stuff like rollovers. Maggie

Good luck Maggie, let us know how you get on. Yes, do keep on with the training, you are right about it being a bonding experience. I just taught Poppy "roll over" about a week ago :)

That's great Maggie. Good boy Otis!

I think out, house, crate is a good routine in 2 hour slots - and if he has an accident, then you know to shorten the times until he gets the idea. Best of luck with it!

    Looking good.
The poo eating is a real pain though, isn't it?
I struggle with it when my SILs dog comes to stay - although if you get her focused on her ball she is oblivious to everything else ::)
