Hattie is bursting with pride that Ricky the Poodle won ;D

Absolutely no idea what the American Spaniel is about, thought it was weird and what use it could possibly be as a Gundog ???

Also had no idea there was a Long Haired German Pointer :)

    Ban those leads

Poodles are a lovely doggy shape - but they are doomed to live inside stupid haircuts for the vanity of their owners :(

We don't get Crufts televised here but I'm enjoying your comments and must check out the Crufts website later.

I take it that we're universally not applauding the American Cocker but are divided over the Standard Poodle.

Couldn't agree more, but as long as stupid judges keep awarding them prizes, stupid owners will continue to give them stupid haircuts  Poor Poodle such an elegant GUNDOG which shouldn't be forgotten

    Re: Crufts

I saw an American cocker in Winchester and didn't recognise it as it had been clipped, it looked quite nice but it was massive for a cocker spaniel. I really don't like the coat on the show dogs though, completely over the top and pointless....

I'd be interested to know if Ricky the poodle spends his life in a lion clip or if he has a nice working clip some of the time. Even though I don't like the clip I thought he was very stylish on the move, quite flashy and a bit glam.

I think we are divided over the haircut on the Standard Poodle, not the Poodle as a breed which I find beautiful :)

As for the American Cocker just NOT GETTING IT ???

Many showdogs live very sad lives. Well fed but kennelled full time and only exercised on running machines.

Sophie still thinks it should have been the Rottie.

Lilly says she should have won.

I think Ricky looked a little sad having his head hoisted up by the owner. He also apparently travels the world entering shows - what a "life" :'(

He might enjoy that life :)

Ok, divided on the haircut, not the bearer of the hair :)

Agree. Why take a beautifully shaped dog and then obscure it??

I was absolutely stunned to see the size of show labs... Havin only ever seen them on tv or from a distance before it's quite different seeing them up close and personal. There was none there even remotely similar to Penny... It's like they're a totally seperate breed. Even the working labs I saw in the gundog demos and the game keepers ring were a lot bigger and stockier than her.

On another note - totally fell in love with the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever and the Pointer. And fell more in love with the Dalmatians I saw yesterday.

Was sooooo impressed with the demo of the gundogs... Never really realised what it all entailed, even though my dad had working springers for a time when I was younger.

Anyone who went see the Great Dane doing Freestyle?? She was inredible!!

He might have a sad life, we don't know. But his breeder and owner said in an interview earlier that he leads a normal doggy, muddy, life in a family, running round with a lot of freedom. Maybe they were lying, of course.

I also was dubious about the choke slip leads up round the ears.

(Barbara, Lilly says thank you ;) )
