I know they are very typical of and excellent examples of working types :) But they are too houndy and whippy-tailed to my eye. They depart from what I think of as correct Labrador type when I think of the breed standard, which is why I said they are not typey.

Theyre very well bred working labs. some of the best bloodlines in those dogs so that's as typey as typey gets in the UK I'd say.

    "monkey"

Ooohhhh... Recognize a LOT of the names in that pedigree... Probably why Monkey looks so perfect to me!! ;)

Look like lovely typical worker types to me .... certainly very representative of all the ones I've seen in the shooting field :)

Each to our own s a wonderful thing :)

I LIKE ROMEO - SHOOT ME NOW! ;D ;D ;D (ok, even I can only say I like bits of Romeo).

Loads of working type dogs are lovely, lovely, lovely dogs and look fabulous. Lots of cross breeds are too. That's not really the point though.

The breed standard says an otter tail is characteristic of the breed. So if a labrador doesn't have one, it's not characteristic of the breed - at least in part, against the breed standard.

Some people might say that they prefer labradors without otter tails (I very much prefer mine with otter tails). No problem. But it's hard to object to someone saying without an otter tail, a labrador is not the type described in the breed standard. It's just a fact. And an unobjectionable one if you don't like otter tails anyway.

Perhaps we can all at least agree that this is the best example of an otter tail: ;D ;D ;D

    Re: Crufts

I have to say me young Lab has a dreadful tail, not a bit ottery, and he holds it high and it curls a bit and is far too long :-[ But I love him just the same :) Quite useful really as I shall say he is crossed with a Collie and then he may not get stolen! He does share a lot of Monkey's pedigree on previous page.

:) :) :) Loving a dog has absolutely nothing to do with the breed standard. That's for sure.

Two labradors live here but no otter tails to be seen.

eevee's breeder had zero interest in form. He was motivated purely by function, by which I mean drive, and natural instinct.

I wouldnt have thought he had even read the breed standard or would want to despite being a big noise in the kennel club.

with this kind of divergence in attitude, the breed will never meet in the middle despite those tiny numbers of breeders breeding 50:50 show : field labs.

if im honest, id have preferred eevee to be a bigger dog. I think the focus has been on speed.
