Re: Crufts I had high hopes for Charlie's otter tail - but it's turned out not as good as I thought it might. I still love his tail though. I think Charlie has the best tail in the world (and I expect everyone thinks that of the tail attached to their labrador), even though it falls short of a really good otter tail. I think the hair is supposed to wrap around the tail to finish off the look (you have to start with a decent thick tail to start with, of course, it's not all hair). Here is the breed standard (Charlie carries his tail high, as diagram d - even higher, actually). tail-labrador by JulieTandCharlie, on Flickr High hopes in the early days: Otter by JulieTandCharlie, on Flickr Turning a bit feathery... otter tail 3 by JulieTandCharlie, on Flickr Definitely feathery (but still lovely to me otter tail 2 by JulieTandCharlie, on Flickr
Re: Crufts
Obi's tail is the same as Charlie's. Thick, but goes a bit brushy in the last half.
Yes, I noticed that. I think Obi's is a bit thicker. Charlie's is a bit too long too - but more to stroke, that's what I say.
Re: Crufts
Julie and Rachael, I think you both may have OTD (Obsessive Tail Disorder).
What? You didn't measure Poppy's tail every night in the first year to see how it was doing? Well..... ;D ;D ;D
Re: Crufts I must admit not to have thought as much about tails as this in their whole lives. bad labrador mummy.

Re: Crufts
Don't let Dexter and Angela on this thread anymore! ;D
They might be ignoring us. Or maybe just having fun in the sand pit.
Re: Crufts The lovely Dex is above such mundane and trivial matters - Dex has a unique spaniel like tail, he might not be eligible for Crufts (neither, I suspect, is Charlie due to the titanium assisted knee - although I also suspect that would be the least of his worries in trying to qualify ;D) but he is in good company. They won't let Ziggy in either.

Or maybe just having fun in the sand pit.
Ha ha ha ha! I'm just catching up on the 'tail ' end of this thread ! Dex has developed the most magnificent kiss curl on the end of his tailette!ill get a photos of it for you,I'm in bed now!i have to say that when I see photos of all your beautiful dogs i do always check their tails out :'( Dexter never had an otters tail,he had a blurry fast lean, whip of a tail that caused bruises and bloodshed and was better off gone :'( ........I tell my broken heart! x
Re: Crufts We had a major, tail-induced, spilled beer incident on the weekend so that's one thing you're fairly safe from, Angela. Obsessive Tail Disorder is only a clinical problem if it bothers the 'sufferer' or causes significant disruption to daily activities.

Re: Crufts Charlie has the same power blaster hair dryer as Ricky! Only takes a few minutes to dry Charlie though. Not sure I could comb that much!
Re: Crufts I'm really chuffed he has some sort of a normal doggy life but it would drive me bonkers to have to groom for that long!
Re: Crufts Go Ricky 8) So glad he gets to play on the beach. Hopefully it's a common thing for him, he certainly seems at home
