The specific gravity of the urine is the most important thing to check if you can, more important really than pH. Unfortunately you need a refractometer to check this as the strips are unreliable. I assume your vet is spinning the urine down and checking for struvites at the surgery? Samples sent off to an external lab can grow struvites on the journey!

Yes, she is spinning and showing me the struvites in the office....it's only for the culture that she sent the sample out.

She also gave me a recommendation (today) on a food brand that I can live with...so will be starting that transition later this week. I'm not sure I want to keep on the brand forever...but if it will resolve the struvites and not mess with her belly....we'll go for it for a while anyway.

He he....I know this is a serious business....but I just had a vision popping into my head of Heidi with a winemaking hydrometer and a test tube of Bella's urine ;D

    I know, I know......not funny really

I must admit...when Lochan said refractometer...I wondered what kind of gadgetry my husband might have in the back. ;D ;D ;D Probably won't go that route...but did make me think about it... I'm well known to be an information whore and a gadget nerd... ::)

Looks just like my husbands cider making

I didn't drink it before and I certainly won't now.
