how does your daily routine go ?
one day in the life of a dog,......6 30 morning alarm call,...mark gets up with jasper feeds him, then lets him out into the garden,.....he is then left for one hour, i am up for 7 30, (lazy cow )

i have a chat to him why i am making my coffee, he then goes to the back door, he sits in the doorway listening to the birds why i freeze, sits there for half an hour,...he wont go in the garden with the door closed
9 30 i make my breakfast, jasper sits looking up at me hoping he will get some, at the same time i prepare his treats for the day/salmon/sausages/grilled sardines.....with the smell lingering i get him ready for his morning walk normally about 11.00,off we go for our walk, approximately 30 to 40 mins :)

back from our walk its cleaning time, i busy myself with jasper wondering under my feet, stealing cloths, tea towels, grrrr,

its now time for our afternoon walk, 2.30, off we go, out for just over an hour,.....by this time its 3 45, cuddle time , he then as his first nap of the day, i mean nap, at the most an hour, ::)

after his nap its play time,....hide and seek, find the toy, few tricks,
holy moses its time for me to prepare our evening meal......jasper sits by the window waiting for daddy, mark home its attention time again, mark spends half an hour play,
after our evening meal its settle down time, approx 7.00,jasper lies at the side of me on the settee,....9.00 its time for mark to take him out for his evening walk, only 10 15 mins, just to empty his bladder,....10.00 bed time......thank goodness :)

how often do your dogs sleep in the length of a day ?
am i giving him to much of my attention and time ?
i don't go out of the house very often to socialise, just once a week for 4 hours ???

Sounds like a great life to me :)

When Obi is home alone (Tues and Fri) he sleeps all day.....I think. At least, if we ever come home unexpectedly he is asleep on our bed, any time of day. On the other days he is active, playing with other dogs, most of the day. They have a lunchtime nap.

Jasper sounds like he has a good routine to me. A good mix of focused attention, relaxed time with company around, mental exercise (training) and physical activity.

    Re: daily routine

Ah Lynne if he seems happy and you're happy I think you've got the balance right .....he's not upset when you go out is he...if you've got the time to give then I'm sure Jasper only benefits from it and he's got variety in his day.

My day as follows....my early start would make you weep!

5.30 () alarm goes off.....
6 am in the park ...still dark for 15 mins and I get half an hour of relaxing off lead running as there is no one else about except a few doggie people with the same idea as me and NICE dogs ;D
7am home....feet washed down and Dex towelled off.....he hates the washing, loves the toweling!
Dexter restless because he wants feeding but Chris usually appears for a wrestle and play so this distracts him from the fact he thinks I've forgotten to feed him !
    7.30 ish..Breakfast
8am quick brush, teeth clean, face wash and ear check and another play with Chris.
8.30-10.30 he's home alone as this is when I do my outside chores or drag myself to a gym class....anyone like Betty( dog sitter) or my sister who call in during this period says he's snoozing or looks like he's been snoozing....
11 am ...out for 15 minute loo break and sniff around then I get on with housework chores and he snoozes through that, even the vacuuming, have to wake him up to move him or he will just lie there and let me Hoover round him!
Then he will sleep Up until about 3 pm then ...I take him out for a wee and we have a play or that is when I do any training with him.....this is the time when visitors pop in,as it's round school pickup time so usually someone swings by for a cuppa.
5.30 pm another hour lead walk ......
7pm ish Dinner and a mess about and play with Chris
Evening time, chilling with us having cuddles ,chewing on his toys
9.30 another half hour walk and toilet break before bed 10 pm
Now the house is clear of visitors and the weather is cooler I'll try and fit in another training session in the morning but generally he sleeps about 5-6 hours I reckon.....I used to worry this was too much but he seems happy, interested, energetic and bright when he's not sleeping and chilled and happy when he does....

i have not got enough hours in a day :)

    Sam and Millies routine :

Sam asks to be let outside at around 7 , Millie wont even get out of bed ::)
Sam has breakfast at about 7.30 . Millie doesnt do breakfast , still in bed ::)
8.30 a.m. First walk , great anticipation , beach or woods ? Millie now alert and raring to go , this walk is usually for about an hour and is a combination of pure enjoyment and training for both.
Home , both go back to bed and doze the rest of the morning away , lunchtime for us and they are both suddenly awake and looking for tasty morsels .
After lunch , I take Sam on his own about twice a week for retrieiving without the pesky game spoiler ;D
Afternoon walk for both of them at around 2.30 for an hour , most off lead but some onlead too .
Home and if it fine they go out for a play around in the garden , if not they usually play in the hallway until their tea time at around 4 , then they hang around whilst I prep food in the kitchen .
They both settle down to sleep at about 7 and tend not to move from their beds until its time for the last garden trip at about 11ish . If the weather is good and I am outside pottering, they will both come out and help, in their own way of course ;)

Wow Lynne, if I ever 'come back' as a dog, please can I live with you?!
I get up at 6:45, let Chip out for a wee then we both have breakfast. Him wide awake & chomping, me bleary eyed. Then I shower while he snoozes. Then he gets Charlie (my 8 year old) up by bouncing on his bed :)
8:30 School run then I walk Chip with his ball thrower for half an hour.
Off to work, where he greets everyone, they all give him a piece of kibble each (yep, I supply my employee's with treats!) then he snoozes under my desk with the odd wee outside in the yard.
Walk at lunch time with the Frisbee for half an hour, then back to snoozing under my desk.
Leave work at 4, walk for around an hour and a half in woodland/round the lake/anywhere he can run free and swim....then we pick up Charlie & all go home for tea.
As I'm on my own with Charlie, I can't give him any more than to be let out on the green where we live in the evenings as Charlie is in bed but this doesn't seem to bother Chip. We walk in the summer (lighter evenings) but in winter its a no no in the dark :(

    Re: daily routine

Charlie is up at 5.45 – out for a pee and then is allowed to jump on me or OH – whoever is still in bed

6.30am – 10 min clicker training session (today was sit on my left hand side)

The rest of the day depends on if I’m at home. If I am:
(when I say “work” read “work in between hugely more productive time on the Labrador site”) ;D ;D ;D.

    Charlie sleeps, I work

Until 8am then we go out to walk and train on Wimbledon Common and Charlie gets breakfast in training treats. (today was stop whistle, off lead heel, sit on my left hand side, a big chase game with his mate hugo, and 5 retrieves – which he brought back :) :) :)).

    Back by 9am, wash etc.

    Charlie sleeps, I work

10.30am - 20 min clicker training and loo break. (today was pick something up if I touch it and say “take it” – this is just a trick we are learning). I go back to work, he sleeps under my desk.

    Charlie sleeps, I work

Lunchtime – 10 min garden training and loo break (more sit on my left hand side attempts – we’re slow at this!)

    Charlie sleeps, I work

3pm – 10 min playtime / household manners (we’ll be working on the dodgy mat release cue today) and loo break

    Charlie sleeps, I work

4pm – 30 min training on Wimbledon Park field (today it’s recall practice with OH, and stop whistle, and tight on lead turns if we have time)

    Charlie sleeps, I work

6pm – dinner, but there is usually no food left over from training

Charlie then plays with OH all evening and then they have a cuddle training session. He gets load of food that he is not allowed to have.

    10pm – loo break, bed.

    a thought............

do you have a hard edge that you can walk down with Charlie at heel between you and the wall then ask him to sit at various stages you and the wall should keep him in the correct position. As he gets better move slightly away from the wall or walk off the edge at a corner and ask again, the repetitions along the wall will hopefully have fixed the correct position in his mind.

I trained a 'finish' and used a treat to lure Riley round from his sit or delivery in front of me into a heel position for a sit. I do a turn on the left, others get their dog to walk round them. When the dogs get better they usually do this automatically because they know the fun is all out in front and that's where their next retrieve is coming from. Riley still likes to watch me though and it's one of the many reasons having a dummy thrower is a good thing.

    Re: daily routine

The problem I'm having is that on stop whistle (when he is walking at heel) he sits straight, on the left. If he is mooching about, but behind me and to the left, it's fine. If not, and I say heel, he'll sit in front of me (as for recall or retrieve) - we've moved on a bit to him sometimes moving to sit straight ahead but sometimes on the right! On "heel" I want him to sit on my left, straight, lined up for a retrieve...

If he sits too far back on the left, I witholding the treat and he'll shuffle forwards. If I withold it on the right, he'll look at me blankly. He has a strong "no snatch at food" so he won't follow food round as a lure so well - I have to say "take it" and then withdraw it as he tries to take it. At which point he looks affronted and doubtful about "take it"!

I'll come throw dummies for you. Maybe you can help me with my sit on the left hand side? I'll PM you?

Anyway, it's all your fault. I started this because you and Riley showed us up when I couldn't get Charlie to sit on the grass for the photo.... ;D ;D ;D
