He's not been right for 48 hours.....so we've been to the vet today. He's drinking a bit more ( but our temps have shot up so not totally unexpected) I'd snuck onto a beach on Sunday afternoon and we'd had a great walk and swim with a friend so he'd been in and around salt water, which isn't great for tummies. I was out late then on Sunday night ( came in at midnight) he'd been in bed for 2 hours with Chris ,I just crept into bed in the dark but could feel a damp patch on the throw,I thought it was maybe dribble ( although he never really dribbles :-\) he got me up at 3 am to go out to do a wee toilet.totally not normal .In the morning I looked at the throw and it had a yellowy stain on it Parcelling it up to go to the dry cleaners I mentioned it to our dog walker who also does some cleaning for me and she said she'd noticed a little drop of the same stain in his bed during the day. There was another drop this morning too. He's not scratching, licking or off his food,he's just not himself and quieter ( he could be being a a bit sulky or sad,I've been tied up this week ,my niece and sister have got a terrible gastro bug so my nephew is staying with us to avoid it so while he's certainly not being neglected,He's not been getting his usual level of attention from me) Anyway I got a wee sample and made an appointment...so discouraged by our veterinary care here,I'm probably a nightmare but I just don't have any faith. After Dexters ear problems last year I'd found a really great English guy at a British practice ( 4 th vet I've tried in 2 years) anyway he's left the practice so I explained our symptoms and asked the receptionist to make me an appt with whoever she thought most appropriate.......We saw a lovely girl, handled Dexter really well, but she seemed really young and was a nervous wreck with me ( and I don't think I'm scarey, although I do ask a lot of questions : ) Anyway we've come back with no clear diagnosis, there no crystals in his urine, but there was some bacteria so he's being treated for a UTI with antibiotics.im writing this and thinking I don't remember seeing her take his temperature...in fact I'm sure she didn't..........she should have done that right? He wanted his walk and I took him out myself,he launched at a cat with his usual enthusiasm and ate his dinner with usual gusto so he's not really poorly I just don't think he's right Part of me does think it could just be the heat,he hasn't been out in it a lot but the daytime temps have really jumped up the last few days ......and the trip to the beach, our water is terribly salty...and he had a full day at daycare on Sunday ( I should have kept him at home :-[ I had my misgivings :-[ :-[ :-[ )these factors where what held me off scuttling to the vet yesterday.Lets see,he's got his pal coming round for a play date tomorrow so I'll see how he is then ... Need to stop reading things about diabetes on google
Re: Dex out of sorts..... Oh dear. It does sound like a UTI though...it must drive you mad not having a decent vet, I don't think I could cope. Very worrying. Step away from google....that never helps.
Re: Dex out of sorts..... Poor Dex and poor you. It could be any number of the things you have listed, none of which are serious. I agree with Julie to step away from the dreaded Dr Google. Although I'm not convinced she follows her own advice
Re: Dex out of sorts.....
it must drive you mad not having a decent vet, I don't think I could cope. Very worrying.
You would have relocated by now I'm sure!I bounce between 2 practices.....one of them is still the original practice that amputated his tail as I love the care they gave him over that but I had a nightmare with them over some test results....I just don't trust them diagnostically at all,and the vet I like isn't licensed to operate so you see her, then her colleague operates.....dont ask!So I use them for wormers, vaccinations, spot on treatments etc.....2 more practices have made issues worse so I've binned them. This 4 th one is right across town on horrible massive, fast 7 lane highways,I hate him being in the car with me on a drive like that although he is as good as gold.it was worth it for the guy I'd found but not now so I'm back to the drawing board.I do actually live with a fear of something serious happening and not being able to get even satisfactory care for him, nevermind a specialist,it's in my mind all the time when I'm reading about limps and cruciate tears and even when Millie had that melting eye ulcer...I need to go on a secret search for Dr Phillip.....the practice today weren't very forthcoming when I asked directly if he was still in the country! Dex has been asleep under my legs all night but shot up like the usual rocket when chris went to get a few biscuits for his bedtime walk so I'm sure he is ok,and if there is anything just about to start the antibiotics will knock it out .... Nnite all off to bed X
Re: Dex out of sorts..... Is this the guy? https://www.linkedin.com/pub/philip-simon/22/439/585 Maybe contact him through LinkedIn and ask him where he is? PS Yes, I have good stalking skills

Re: Dex out of sorts.....
Is this the guy?
You are not serious !!!!!! It blummin well is !!!!!! You are amazing , I'd have not thought of that !!!! I'll send him a message ... He's got a working cocker .... He might even be lurking around on here ( PM me Dr Phillip ;D ....now wouldnt that be a turn up !!! Thankyou Fiona
Re: Dex out of sorts..... So sorry to hear Dexter isn't his usual self . I hope you manage to make contact with Phillip well done Fiona . It must be horrid not being able to have confidence in a vet. I hope it's just a UTI and the meds help x I find when other members of my family have had to walk Harley due to work commitments or my health, harley can be quite 'sulky' with me which usually lasts a few days. Just thought I would mention this x
Re: Dex out of sorts..... Aw, bless ya both. I can understand your worrying. It sounds like he might be improving tho' so sending you positive vibes across the sea for a speedy back-to-normal-ness. Nice detective work Snowbunny! Lots of love and woofs for Dex from B and me x
Re: Dex out of sorts..... Poor Dexter. Hope he is back to normal soon. I too have thought "Oh no! Diabetes!" on occasion with Obi, but it's never been that.... I have done the exact same Google searches, I'm sure Hope Dr Phill writes back!!!
Re: Dex out of sorts..... Good work Fiona!!! Remind me never to cross you, you would hunt me down ;D Glad Dex is slightly improved. I hope it is just a UTI and he's right as rain again soon xxx
Re: Dex out of sorts..... Love to Dex- hope he feels better soon What a worry Good detective skills, Fiona ;D ;D
Re: Dex out of sorts..... Oh dear, hope Dex is back to normal soon and that your worries will be for naught. The whole vet thing is tricky...here we have limited options too. There's only a couple practices here, i take Simba to my friend who is a vet and on the whole i am happy with him. Which is good...it would be awkward to say thw least if i felt i had to change :-\
Re: Dex out of sorts..... I hope Dex is feeling better now and you can find a vet that you can fully trust with his care.
Re: Dex out of sorts..... Hope the antibiotics are working and it proves to be a UTI. Have you managed to contact the vet through Fiona's sleuthing? It's so important to have confidnce in your vet, as it's difficult enough anyway when animals are unwell and can't explain what's wrong. It sounds as if Dexter is on good form apart from the leaking, though, so that's a bonus.
Re: Dex out of sorts..... Normal service appears to be resumed here, thankyou all x
Have you managed to contact the vet through Fiona's sleuthing?
I can't seem to inmail on my iPad but I've been able to send a 'connect' invite....so let's see if he gets back ,I'll see if inmail works on the home pc when I can get on,having a bit of painting done today so the home office is out of bounds ......great day to invite a spaniel round for a play date...not! ;D
Re: Dex out of sorts..... Hope Dexter is picking up now. It never occurred to me that you would have difficulties finding a decent vet in a modern city. It must be quite unnerving.
Re: Dex out of sorts.....
Good work Fiona!!! Remind me never to cross you, you would hunt me down ;D
Mwuhuhuhuh (most menacing laugh I can muster)
