I am so sorry, something no-one expected! Hope he is so much better. My vet has just introduced that out of hours cover, an American idea and I dislike it! I would now have to drive 7 miies away, seriously thinking of changing my vet who is a friend
Gosh what a horrible shock for you. I hope Dexter is well on the mend and enjoys the rest of his holiday.
I just didn't ask Stacia to be honest because all the vets in Dubai have 24 hour in house clinic cover.....I just assumed, wrongly, the same here ,I understand from conversations that I've had in the last day ,particularly in Harrogate, that this isn't the case ,they have agreements between clinics for out of hours cover and this is the norm..... It's felt quite strange having such an episode and not knowing the vet .... But they were very thorough and kind . You've got quite a quandary there because you trust your friend but if you need a vet,you need a vet....I'm now registered between the 2... But im hoping I don't need either again.... in the nicest possible way x
Our two local vets used to cover for each other out of hours. Now my vet has decided to used an emergency clinic, it only opens out of hours and is very expensive and is a long way away. Out of hours cover is far nicer.
Well thinking positively, you hopefully won't need to use the service, having healthy ,strong dogs and it's just there as a back up .....I must admit though yesterday when Dexter couldn t hold his head up or keep his eyes open I wanted somewhere I could run to in less than 10 mins at any time of the day or night ....
Glad Dex is feeling better, such good news. My vet uses a very well respected animal hospital as out of hours cover, just 5 mins drive from me. I'm very happy with the arrangement, I get personal service from a local vet who takes a great deal of trouble over my dogs, and expert out of hours cover. It's a good deal for me, I think.
Most of our vets do not have 24hr emergency care. We have a very good emergency veterinary hospital (Dove Lewis) in Portland, and several smaller emergency vet clinics, some of which are only open nights and weekends.
Ours have always had 24 hour service - until recently Thinking of changing vets. @Dexter, sorry to go off topic! How is Dexter? I thought of you this morning as I walked up the lane with a fresh breeze blowing, even I could smell exciting scents, so thought it would be blowing Dexter's mind
He got the all clear this morning ...temperature was normal, energy levels completely normal....no firm idea about what it could be to be honest....maybe 'just a bug' he's had quite a lot gone on in the last week, his immunity might have been a bit low.....He had a road trip to Liverpool and a stomp around a a boggy field....he reckons all is ok ,Thankyou everyone xxxx
Oh bless him. What a scare. I guess his poor body could react Yorkshire is certainly very different to his home. Hope he is back to his perky self now
So glad Dexter is okay, they are such a worry, our furry babies. I read the first part of your post laughing my head off. Mabel's weak spot (of which she has many) is rabbits. Spring is an absolute nightmare as there is an abundance of fox kill and she'll carry the remains about if I let her. Mabel has a twin, she considers staring incredibly rude. It doesn't even have to be alive for Mabel to take offence and have a good old grump.
