Hi everyone! Little Stanley has a poorly tummy! I changed his food - not the type just the flavour from turkey to duck and his poo's are now really watery. Would this be likely to cause it? I didn't think changing his food flavour would really make any difference? Im not overly worried and he seems fine in himself and he's not going any more than usual. Do you think it's just the change in flavour? Thanks ☺️
It could be, if it is really duck based as opposed to turkey based food. I would change back to turkey, to see if the duck is the problem. The other thing is to change to cooked chicken and rice to get rid of the diarrhea and then try either the original food or the duck again.. Some dogs seem to have problems changing from one thing to another and other seem to be able to eat almost anything with no problem. The usual advice is to introduce the new food gradually. We have never done that because our dogs seem to be able to eat anything with no problem, but not all dogs can do that.
How old is Stanley? Is he as young as he looks in your avatar? Dehydration is a serious concern in young puppies with diarrhoea. How many watery poops has he done? It's a good idea to keep them on the exact same food, flavour and all, that the breeder used for a couple of months at least. Yes, it could be the flavour as it changed the protein source. Many need a very slow, gradual change. Is it stinking hot where you are? The weather? That can put some of them off too. It's over 30c with a humidex of 35C here. My dog is ok but a couple of the cats are eating little and barfing. Some dogs will react to heat that way too.
He's 12 and a half weeks, he's done about 3 or 4 throughout the day. He's still drinking and eating and I've put him back on his other food. My boyfriend only told me about it when I got home from work. No we're in the UK, it's only about 16 degrees. If he's no better in the morning I'll ring the vets. He seems his usual self and hasn't been going any more regularly, it's just not solid when he does go. Hopefully it will clear up soon!
Hope it clears up! Interesting as I changed Tildas food to duck and now she has a poorly tummy! Going back to chicken today see if that makes a difference She also had been wormed and last vaccine too so could be anything I guess!!
He's still got a poorly tummy. It's been 5 days now. Still seems ok in himself & eating & drinking. Poops are yellowish and watery though. We took him to the vets and they said to put him on plain chicken & rice and gave us some sachets to mix in. Doesn't seem to have made any difference though - going to take a sample in tomorrow and hopefully get to the bottom of it ☺️ Hope your little girls clears up much quicker ☺️
I posted before I was done typing, lol! I was gonna say Millie are everything around here when we walked in the beginning including some animals poop. After a few days she got the sort of poop you kind of describe and I dewormed her then she pooped out worms, since then she been solid again.
