Dear friends, Joey is 5 months old now, and he will be 6 months old in 10 more days. I walk him once a day, around 15 mins, 1.2km (0.75 miles), and on leash to the dog park. Then I will let him off leash, and play with some older large breed dogs for about another 20-30 mins. So on the way back home, we walk another 15mins, 1.2km( 0.75miles), and on leash. The total of walking time is 30 mins, 2.4 km (1.5miles), on leash, and another 20-30 mins playing time. According to the ‘5 mins rule’ , for a 6 months old puppy, he should walk less than 30mins, less than 2.41km (1.5miles) in total for a day. I am worried about if I am walking too much for my lovely Joey. On the way to the park, he is excited, but on the way back, he is walking really slowly.
Hello Melody, I walk my six months old pups for 30 mins on lead or 40 mins off lead, but not both during one day. Here is some good advice - https://www.thelabradorsite.com/labrador-puppy-exercise-how-much-is-too-much/
I used to do a similar walk most days. Just ensure that Joey is able to mooch around and can stop when he wants when playing with other dogs. They can't always regulate themselves at that age so will need you to do it for them.
