    Re: Do you ever get offended...?

    My dogs have both been socialised since pups. I walk every couple of weeks with friends and their dogs and they run along quite happily, sniffing the same patch of grass but they all respect each other and their personal space.

    As I said before Ruby is more than happy with a quick sniff and a hello but then she is ready to carry on with her walk. She, understandably, gets fed up with those who continue to bug and bounce all around her. I don't have a problem with her giving a grumble to make the other dog aware of how she is feeling but get peed off when owners want to use my dog to teach their dog some manners. I am amazed just how many "your dog can put mine in its place" comments I get. Why is it my dogs role to do that?

    My dogs definitely don't miss out on not 'playing' with other dogs. If they wanted to leap around with other dogs then I would take them to doggy playgrounds but it just isn't what they want to do.

    I agree with your view.

    Some dogs just aren't that keen on playing with other dogs. They have good manners, but just want to do their own thing or care more for their ball. Other dogs and owners should respect that.

    My Poppy lies down when she sees another dog coming, and if she is nervous or unsure, she flicks her head to the side to show her neck and avoid eye contact. She is very good with other dogs, but can be a bit snappy with male dogs who sniff her bottom too much! (And who can blame her??? :eek: )

    Sam adores other dogs , but being the rather large lad that he is , owners are somtimes afraid when he comes over to politely meet and greet, until they realise that he isnt a monster, in fact he is a very gentle and tollerent dog who will take any ammount of play , especially from younger ones .
    Millie is fine, most of the time but she heartily dislikes the over zealous bottom sniffers too , will tell them off with a grumble but never a bite , I think she is allowed to do this ?
    On the whole though , if I have tennis balls or a dummy , they both ignore other dogs which can be a fab tool on a crowded beach :)

    Tarka has no interest in playing with other dogs except Lochan, Brodick and Cuillin. She will ignore strange dogs, but tell them off if they try to steal her ball. I also find it annoying when owners of strange dogs cannot recall them from trying to steal Tarka's ball and just laugh and say something on the lines of "oh well, it's good for him to learn some manners....". It is clearly stressful for Tarka who thinks her prized possession is about to be stolen and is driven to growling and/or barking to try and drive the strange dog away. Lochan on the other hand is quite keen to play with strangers but woe betide any male dog who indulges himself in what she considers "inappropriate sniffing of the nether regions". He will be told off VERY firmly.

    i do not get offended but only because i own a dog that does not like every dog so i am ok with it and do not mind.

    i only let puzzle interact with dogs with dogs upon owner permission or dogs that i know well and are friendly.

    with barley on the other hand it is a different story i do not let him greet and meet dogs even with owners permission as i do not know how he will react to them. it does get annoying when owners let their dogs come up to him willy nilly and think that is fine, when it is not. he is 99% of the time on lead and thatn is for a reason because we can not trust him, we are being the responsible owners by keeping our dog under control (most of the time) and warning other dog owners that he is not that friendly and nervouse when approached by a stranger but most of the time they do not listen or say 'oh my dogs fine' yeah but ours is not :mad:

    I am so glad to hear this about Millie and Lochan, as I was beginning to think my Pops was a bit odd with male dogs!! She doesn't bite them, just tells them off if they appear too keen… They meekly step back, clearly quite chastened. ;)

    Hattie too, she can take offence at male dogs taking too long to sniff and tells them off and they seem to know and retreat. We sometimes meet two male collies and they really worry her circling around, her tail is down and we just make a very quick exit. The owner says "oh don't worry they've been done" which clearly doesn't make any
    difference at all ::)
