Arrggghhhh. I go on a couple of lost pet forums near me and this affects my own walking as well. People don't know where they are walking their dog. Then they lose the dog and try to tell us where they lost it. If only they would: 1. Know if they are allowed there at all. Following someone else is no guarantee. Someone following me is how I lost permission for one piece of private property. 2. Know the name of the property and who owns it. That would follow from #1, but remember it. Also know the road it is on and the municipality it is in. 3. Know who else is allowed to use the property. Hunters? Snowmobiles? Etc. Who has the right of way? 4. Know who else you might encounter regardless if they are allowed. Personally, being married to a former hunter and game warden, I take no chances I will not meet an illegal hunter, and I have. I wear my safety vest and hat. Or dirt bike rider. Etc. Note: dirt bike riders like to get a visibility heads up from reflective clothing too. In the words of one, "We really don't want to run you over." Then, if someone is unlucky enough to lose their pet, I wish they would put their town in. It's amazing how many say near KIng and Main streets without putting in a town. Arrggghhhh. The time it takes one of us to reply with "What town?" takes away from the time it might take to get their pet back home to them. These things are regularly posted on the Lost Pets forums, I just thought it might do some good to alert people here too. Probably more good.
I leave maps and put pick up points for my OH if i doing a long field walk. I also have points which i can get too if i need to quickly if I need to carry a dog out(its happened). Think my OHs OCD is rubing off on me Were lucky we don't have that type of hunting here but I do have to watch out for bikers cyclists joggers (they are the rudest and stupidist usually) and very stoned teenagers. I too feel your pain and have been in the very frustating situation of finding a lost dog with no collar id??? what were they thinking
This made me think. I wander off gaily and don't decide where i am going until we are stood on the path outside the house. It would make sense for me to tell hubby where I am going just in case I ever need help. I always carry my phone. With my first dog in the early 90's I used to wander off with only the front door key.
