Re: Does it get better ? Poor thing......have you seen the tip about an old wetted and frozen tea towel?
Re: Does it get better ? Hi, and welcome to the forum. For the first few weeks we thought Holly had some piraƱa in her pedigree, but we now know that it's just a phase. They grow out of it so just be patient and consistent.
Re: Does it get better ? As everyone else says, it really does pass. Murphy never really bothered biting me for some reason but he would not leave my husbands feet alone. He wouldnt sit on the sofa for about 2 weeks, hed hover on the stairs because murphy wouldnt stop biting his feet. Eventually we had a trainer round as a pre visit before starting puppy class and she actually commented how uneasy charlie my hubby appeared to be and thought it was hilarious how he was perched on the stairs! She suggested isolating murphy anytime there was teeth on skin. As soon as his teeth toughed us we would pick him up, plonk him in the kitchen, shut the door for just 5 seconds and then open but ignore him for a little bit. That seemed to really work, but it could also have been that he was just growing out of it!
Re: Does it get better ? Quick question guys. How long should Millie be sleeping ? She has 2 x 15 minute walks a day and plenty of fetch with the ball in the garden. In the evening she turns into this overexcited, bitey puppy. Is she overtired or does she still have excess energy ? We've just had to put her in her crate for a bit as she just won't relax
Re: Does it get better ? My two Labs were hell in the evenings when they were puppies, it was the time when they seemed to be extra wakeful and 'lets play"! The time when I wanted to sit down and watch the TV! They improved a lot at 6 months and now sleep the evening away ;D
Re: Does it get better ? As everyone says.....it DOES get better. The ONLY thing I could do when he was a pup was put him in time out......many, many times a day. Only for 3 to 5 minutes at a time. He now is 9 months and is a loving, affectionate puppy! While you are going through it you believe you were crazy to get a puppy. I was ready to give him away to anyone walking down my street. HANG IN THERE.....I know it is easy to say while you are the one going through it. But it does get better and, finally, the biting stops.
Re: Does it get better ? Just hang in there. Amber was awful up til 4 months, great training wise but horrendous for biting and would not settle. By 5 months biting calmed down a lot. At 6 months she learnt to spend evenings laying on the sofa with us. Now nearly 9 months she doesn't bite but can be a bit mouthy on dressing gown belts, dangly sleeves and hoody toggles. She does mouth my hands a bit but that's attention seeking normally so we ignore her, or leave the room if she carries on. She's still a cheeky teenager and has got a bit worse on the lead but her first season made a bit of a mess of our training so re-working on things now. The crocodile phase seems awful at the time but it's well worth it as now our overgrown pup is very affectionate and cuddly.
Re: Does it get better ? Bella is 12 weeks and she plays A LOT in the evenings. : We figure it's a combination of things...but mostly it's just her routine. During the day she is subjected to being at work...and while she does get some play time and time for a bit of zooming...she also spends a good amount of time trying to be a good dog and sleeping in her box while hubby is working with customers. By the time I stop by and pick her up....she's excited to see me, excited to get home and see her BIG sister, and she must check out EVERYTHING new in the house since she left. And we spend some time doing some training and then I spend some time with her chasing a ball or squeek toy up and down the hallway. It's a great game and lets her blow off some steam. We have several spurts of this kind of play throughout the evening before it's bed time. We encourage the play time, since it seems to help her sleep better at night. But we also don't let her get away with being a maniac...if she plays too rough, we stop. She's learning.
Re: Does it get better ? Have things got any better in the last week? Phoebe is just10 weeks today and we are really struggling with the biting and it is really getting me down. We have tried pretty much every suggestion I can find and nothing works. Even removing yourself from the room is hard with a dog hanging off the back of your leg!!! I just keep hanging on to what everyone says that it will pass!!! My 6 year old is quite scared of her at times so having to manage that. Hoping it will calm soon!!!!!!

[/quote] Hi Jo, I posted this a couple weeks ago: http://www.thelabradorforum.com/index.php?topic=8659.msg122283#msg122283 Putting Rue in timeout (an old pet carrier we had) was the only thing that worked for the biting. She HATED being in there, because that meant she was confined and away from us. After a few of days of being put in timeout for biting, just uttering the word 'timeout' put a stop to it. She would start biting, we would say 'timeout?' and she would instantly start licking. It did wonders. I was like you ...completely exhausted and covered in bite marks. Hang in there!
Re: Does it get better ? The biting definitely disappears! Inca is now 17 weeks and funnily enough I was thinking about the biting phase just now. It feels like a distant memory! I can't say Inca was as bad as some but having a puppy hanging off me all the time was definitely not fun. It will get better! 11-12 weeks was a real turning point for us, hope it is for you too

Timeout is really working even to the point when just saying "timeout" to Millie stops her in her tracks. The buying is still there but it's starting to feel less frequent. Don't give up you'll get there
Re: Does it get better ? Bad evening of biting and timeouts tonight. Jumping on the sofa and going for my face was the last straw. Time for some reflection in the crate. Weird after it was straight after a walk when I'd have thought she'd be tired and ready for some downtime
Re: Does it get better ? Probably overtired like a toddler and getting fractious. My Lab throws himself about on his bed when he is tired, then suddenly crashes out!
Re: Does it get better ? I agree with Stacia, Inca's biting was always at it's worst just before bedtime.
Re: Does it get better ? Same with Rue in her biting phase. They seem to bite more when they're tired.
Re: Does it get better ? Absolutely agree with the above. Shadow was past the biting phase by the time we got him, but Willow was a little madam when she was overtired. Sometimes it just needed some crate time to let her realise she needed to sleep.
Re: Does it get better ? It's odd. A couple of weeks ago shed fall asleep on the living room floor but now living room is for craziness she never flakes out even for a few minutes. Even though she gets some time in her crate when we eat and occasionally during the day (I get guilty that she's in the crate too much when I think she wants to interact) she still seems wired a lot of the time How often do you guys recommend giving Millie time in her crate during the day ? My wife is currently on maternity leave at home until January so she's probably only in her crate say 3 hours at most during the whole day until bedtime (10.30pm). She then sleeps tight through to 7-715am with no problems
