Having your dog ignore you and run away can be very stressful, not to mention potentially dangerous. In this article we are going to look at why your dog is ignoring you, and how to stop him running away: Dogs Running Away
Great article, this is exactly what happened to us and how we fixed it. Oban had stupendously good recall as a puppy but at 18 months and after a stint of low training due to injury he lapsed. I used North.South Fetch to instill a "re" for the "trieve" for our field training, then morphed the whistle into a recall. Four trainers were unable to help us till I discovered N/S fetch on a UK gundog site. My original cue, COME, was not really poisoned and after I cued the whistle I was able to go back to using COME. Determining what was the ultimate reward (outside is different than training for obedience inside) was key to our salvation and not fading it too fast were important.
