Hi, I wonder if I have made a mistake with getting Charlie to sit/wait whilst I hide his ball/toy as now when out on his walk with David he sometimes will not bring the ball back he picks it up and holds onto to it or runs a little away with it but will sometimes brings it back if David crouches down then he gets a return. I have also found this when training, he mostly drops the toy a few feet away from me. Any ideas? Thanks as always. xx
Re: Doesn't always bring the ball/toy back On one of the seminars I recently attended, a big black show lab didn't always bring the retrieve right back to his owner. The trainer told the chap to crouch down, as it made him less intimidating to the dog, who was hesitating about giving up his 'prey'. Another trick for David is to keep his hands behind his back, and not try to reach for the dummy, but wait until Charlie brings it right to him and presents it.
Re: Doesn't always bring the ball/toy back Brilliant Karen, crouching down seems to work and he does bring it back. Hands behind back is a great tip too. Present now that's something else to work on, just a drop our feet is all we can ever hope for : So can I stick with the sit/wait hide the toy training? Thank you
Re: Doesn't always bring the ball/toy back Oh, definitely keep up the sit/wait while you are hiding the toy.
Re: Doesn't always bring the ball/toy back Great, I really love that part of his training, just love to see him watching me which makes a blinking change ;D x
Re: Doesn't always bring the ball/toy back Well since putting my hands behind my back Charlie came straight back with every retrieve today and delivered 3 into my hand. Really chuffed, thanks for the great tip Karen
