No, how old is she? Why do you have to clean her bottom?

I've not seen this kind of thing myself. Was it blood only or also pus that came out? An infected anal gland can bleed... Bleeding from the rectum area is always something that a vet should see asap, so you're doing the right thing to get her there in the morning. Hope it is something that can be pretty easily sorted out.

Maybe her anal glands were impacted? If it's not bleeding now it sounds like it's not an emergency, but at any rate, visit to the vet first thing tomorrow, I would say. Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Snowie used to get very swollen anal glands -- I believe all part of his allergies (apparently allergies can make the anal glands really overwork and get very full). One evening I was rubbing calendula cream onto his anus (oh yes, what we only do for our four-legged family members!) because he had licked so much that it was very red and very irritated, and while rubbing in the cream, one of his anal glands gave a massive squirt INTO my hair!!! It was late and we were about to go to sleep, and I'd only just come out of the shower with lovely clean hair ready for bed. Oh my word, back into the shower and almost had to scrub my hair clean of that most disgusting anal gland smell! Anyway, I digress, but wanted to let you know you're not alone wiping a dog's bum! Regarding the blood, Snowie was bitten on the anus by a Standard Poodle, two small puncture wounds. It bled a huge amount as if blood was pouring out of his anus. At the time I didn't know what happened, just saw blood pouring out, very scary. Got him to the vet who then examined him and showed me the two puncture wounds where he'd been nipped. She said that a wound on the anus was easily infected due its proximity to passing faeces and I was instructed to clean the area and rub on Bactroban (antibiotic) cream twice a day and after each poo for four days. So, yes, as everyone has said, get to the vet, cos a wound at the anus can become infected and cause worse problems. Let us know how it goes! Good luck!

Poor lass. I'm sure she'll be much more comfortable when that all heals up.
