Does anyone think it would be a good idea to take Charlie to Dog Classes aswell as Agility? I am concerned that he is not getting enough socialisation whilst we are working on his recall as he doesn't have any off lead outside of our property therefore he is not meeting and greeting other dogs only when he is walked and we may not see any some days. He only has Hattie to play with and the dogs at Agility which is not a a social situation infact it's quite serious. Would this be too much too soon for him as he has a lead work, agility and recall to cope with. If anyone could find another few hours in a day that would be very useful too!! Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Helen

Hi Helen, you are doing such a lot for Charlie, I wish I could find you some more hours in the day! :)
At Charlie's age, probably any dog class would be fairly serious like your agility, it is only the very little puppy ones that tend to do much 'free play'.

It would probably all help with his obedience. And he would enjoy having his brain in gear for a while, and being out doing something.

    You might be exhausted though....

    Re: Dog Classes?

Thank you Pippa, the dog class that we used to go to and I took Hattie is very much based on dog introduction, walking in and out of dogs, 2 dogs walking to the middle and treating each others dogs, sits, stays, downs, recalls etc. basic good obedience/manners, just thought it might keep him friendly and happy. Just to let you know he is on Exercise 5 recall from juicy plate of chicken and he has done at least 10 of those with 100% success. Have to say I am not looking forward to involving other people/dogs as this may prove a little difficult as lots of people in our village are at work and I am lucky I only work part time so not sure how to tackle that one. He has done so well with his training that he watches me like a hawk waiting for the next exercise and I think he even pretends to ignore me so that we can get on with it. Clever boy!!! ;) I must give my hubby some credit as he has been walking Charlie on a slip rope for about 4 weeks now and slowly he is getting much better and not pulling nearly as much as he did but this is mostly pavement walking and through the water meadow fields, as he gets a little erratic when a pheasant appears, so we are not walking him with Hattie on our usual walks. My 12 year old son Thomas has great control over him and can walk him on a slack lead (with adult supervision of course) and so can my daughter Grace 17 years old. I guess it must be me, never was much of a pack leader!!
    Thanks Helen
