I buy my dog food at Scats and have never felt confident that I am buying the most appropriate because there is a huge price range (see selection below) and presumably quality. Benson is a mature (4 years) fit (2 hour daily walks) constant weight (35 kgs) and healthy black Labrador. The criteria I use to decide which kibble he gets is based primarily on cost and I select an average price around £25 per 15 kg bag having eliminated the most expensive and the cheapest. Whatever I choose Benson woofs it down and seems well-satisfied but I wonder whether the adage that "you gets what you pay for", maybe true and beneficial in the long term? Any advice? Re: Dog Food Difficult for me to answer , Sam has an intolerance to fats so, whilst he would actually eat anything offered, he cant : I do think that some dog foods which are full of rubbish ( additives , preservatives etc . ) seem to be the same price as some of the better ones not containing nasties but command their price via intensive advertising and attractive packaging , therefore appealing to many people . I use a base of Skinners duck and rice or salmon and rice but make up the shortfall myself from low fat home prepared food , raw and cooked .
Re: Dog Food I avoid the foods with lots of additives in them. I've settled on Burns Alert or Burns Active for my dog, Lady. 5 years old. It's around £35 for a 12kg bag. I also give her Burns Penlan Farm wet dog food mixed with her kibble most nights.

Re: Dog Food I'm a great believer in Royal Canin for my cats and for Juno. Juno was brought up on Husse puppy food, her breeder here in France is a distributor, until she was spayed in December and is now on Royal Canin Junior Large dog for Neutered at the recommendation of our vet. I find that although Royal Canin and Husse (available for delivery on the internet from Husse.co.uk) are more expensive they last well as you don't need to feed as much.
Re: Dog Food Look what I have found http://www.csjk9.com/ 30kgs delivered to your door for £29.85. Any one else use the same product? Roger
Re: Dog Food
Skinners Salmon & Rice here, cheaper on Amazon!
Same here - and they deliver really promptly (Gypsy is on Royal Canin, which is much more expensive, yet I can see no difference at all in the health/fitness/glossiness/energy of my two dogs)
Re: Dog Food I also use Amazon for my Skinners, subscribe and save makes it even cheaper and I know we wont run out .
Re: Dog Food The owner at our training kennels use CSJ and all the dogs that come into the kennels for holidays or training are put on it unless they have a medical condition that prevents it. She's very happy with it and her dogs always look healthy
