Doing a spot of training with Lady yesterday in a very large grassy field when the phone rings. In the course of answering the call I wander across the field then meet up with some dog walking friends and - you've guessed it - when I got back to the road about a mile's walk further on found I had left the lead in the field. Doh! Anyway walked Lady home at heel off lead and went back in the evening to find the lead in the 40 acre field. Knew pretty much the general area but it's a big field. Trolled around for a bit with no success so got "The Nose" on the job with a "lost" command and sent her out quartering with no real hope of her knowing that if she found the lead an indication would be good. After about 5 minutes of repeated casting bonk! she dives onto a tennis ball. "Well done Lady - where's the lead?" No clue what you are on about she says with her eyes. Anyway we try again and eventually she "blinks" something in the grass. Whoop, whoop! It's the lead. Now do you think it will be worthwhile teaching her to retrieve leads?
Yes I think you are right there. I was restitching a quick release slip lead this morning and Lady came up and pushed the lead away with her nose as if to say "Don't you dare put that on me!"
On my very first walk( in a meadow) with Chepi I lost my car keys. Every time we go back I search but no luck ....
