My sister is very involved with this rescue organization, that helps dogs in a pound in Cyprus. The pound is pretty terrible - overcrowded, underfunded and with poor facilities, and dogs are regularly put to sleep if they cannot be rehomed. The organization funds medical treatment and neutering of selected dogs, and flies them to the UK for fostering and adoption. My sister has two lovely dogs of her own from this organisation, and is currently fostering another dog too, and my Mum's lovely little Bella came from there as well. Here is the link: http://dogrescuecyprus.com At present I am particularly touched by this story. This poor lab is around 2-3 years old, friendly, loves to play, is good with children, and has been in the pound for around six weeks. He has been named Poison by the staff there, poor boy!!! If anyone could spare a pound or two to help him on his way to the UK, it would be really wonderful. Or maybe share his page on Facebook, to get the word out some more. Re: DOG Rescue Cyprus Thanks so much Barbara, I really appreciate it. Do you have a suggestion for a new name? I can send it on to my sister, who will enter it on the site.
Re: DOG Rescue Cyprus The donation was received Barbara; many thanks from my sister! If you look on the site, you can see an alsatian cross named Roger. He is being fostered by my sister in the UK at present. If we could get this boy over there, maybe she could foster him too..
Re: DOG Rescue Cyprus I think he should be called Spero - spirit. I also went to school in Cyprus and there was a boy in my class called Spero. Πολλές Ευχές to your sister...
Re: DOG Rescue Cyprus Angela, thank you very much for your donation, very much appreciated. Somehow this dog has got under my skin, and I'm determined he at least is going to have a chance at a happy life. I know we can't help them all, but we can help some. Jane, I guarantee you this is a serious organization. But I understand if you feel you can't donate. Sharing his post on facebook costs nothing, and might well get more support.
Re: DOG Rescue Cyprus Oh my, so many beautiful dogs in the pound. I so want to hear of a happy ending for "Mermaid Millie", too. She's gorgeous!
Re: DOG Rescue Cyprus -GOOD NEWS I have wonderful news!! Thanks to your generous donations, a good amount of money was raised towards the costs of getting this poor lab out of the pound. But this morning my sister called me to say that an anonymous donor has covered the rest of the costs!!! ;D 8) I am so happy, and grateful to all of you for your generosity and kindness. The rescue organization loved Julie's name suggestion of Spero, which means Spirit in Greek and 'I Hope' in Italian, so very apt and fitting. Spero will be neutered, chipped and vaccinated, and in about four weeks he will fly to the UK. They will be actively looking for a foster home and a forever home for him. I have asked that we get some more photos of him, and I'll keep you up to date with his progress. Again, thank you, thank you!!!

Re: DOG Rescue Cyprus Really great news...let's hope he finds the loving home he deserves now! Well done Karen and Karen's sister! Thrilled they decided on Spero!
