    Hi,

I recommend this book - On Talking Terms with Dogs: Calming Signals by Turid Rugaas, you can buy it on Amazon. This book is very useful with lots of photo's of interactions between dogs.

I have a friend who got her puppy the same time I got Hattie so we used to walk together a couple of times a week, he would come here Hattie would go to their house. I looked after her pup every other month for 4 years as they have a house in Spain and Hattie would stay at their house whilst we went on holiday. They knew each other so well there were never ever any issues between them and thoroughly enjoy each others company. When we got our rescue boy Charlie, her dog came to stay a few times again no issues but once he come over and marked all round the house from then on Charlie wouldn't have him here now they don't like each other.

The meet ups is a great idea, good luck!! :) x

That's an interesting clip Julie, just subtle changes in approach and in the bitch make all the difference to the outcome. I find dog body language fascinating. Thanks for posting.

Maybe we could have a separate thread - Dog Body Language for this subject? :) x

Really interesting clip. Am going to watch it again later on a screen bigger than my phone. It's interesting to see some of the signals I've been reading about on a video clip.
I also really like Turid Rugaas' book on calming signals.

Maisie is getting back to normal. I had to give her natural calming tablets which have worked a treat over the last few months and her reactivity is 95% better. My example is probably the extreme of what could happen. I think your idea of meeting up on neutral territory is a great idea and then perhaps some home visits with and then without the other owner.

    Hi there
I sit for quite a few friends dogs, they are all dogs we walk with regularly.Dexter loves having a playmate around and its a great opportunity for me to train him around distractions ...but.... he does withdraw a little bit during the down times eg if the visitor is up on the couch having a cuddle he looks a bit sulky and he can look downright bothered sometimes if it's 'quiet time' and the visiting dog doesn't 'get' our routine and tries to engage him in play.We always manage that though for him ...my biggest challenge of it and something for you to think about is walking 2 dogs when one of them isn't your own.Only one of the dogs I mind can walk on a loose lead, the others are pretty hard work to be honest..I'm lucky that I've usually got another pair of hands around to take the visitor when its lead walk time......I mind a lovely little beagle who does what beagles and takes off at least once on every walk when I am out with her and her owner....when she is staying with me I have to be organised to make sure Dexter gets his off lead exercise and still have time to walk her properly when I get back x

Hi all, just thought of updating you sll that my lab and the border collie I am sitting are doing so well. They play most of the time. Sometimes with toy and sometime just mingle. My lab do get possessive if someone pats her but that's about it. We love both but pat our dog a little extra. Just not to scar her for anything. Worried that she will be upset for few days when the other dog will go back. I have to give her some extra time and attention. Thanks again for all yr suggestions

I thought the Rottie had a stalking walk even though his head was turned away!
