We live in Iowa where we are having record breaking cold temps. Gable is 14 months and over 80 lbs. I’ve had people tell me we shouldn’t walk outside if the temp is below 20 F. Is that a good rule of thumb to go by or would help be ok in our 30 minute walk?

Labs are pretty tough dogs, and usually do fine in cold weather. If it was -20 I might be careful, but 20 should be fine as long as he doesn't have to sleep in the snow.

Labs are cold weather dogs. Your dog will be just fine.

As long as you can both come in out of the cold afterwards and dry off you’ll be fine.

I figure if I can survive the cold so can my dog. Same with the heat, we get really hot summers, I try to walk in the evening when it is cooler and they have free access to a small dam at home so they can cool down as and when they choose to.

Having said that the 6 month old pup takes himself to the dam everyday, even when it is cold. Like yesterday when it was 7 degrees Celsius, 44 Fahrenheit.
