I wanted a Labrador puppy, really badly. Got Charlie - yay! A puppy! Then I didn't want him to grow up, I wanted him to stay a puppy. But now, he's a dog, all grown up and having a dog is much better than having a puppy. He has much more personality as a dog than a puppy. Is better able to communicate, is more affectionate, and is just more of a person you can really get to know, rather than a scatterbrained puppy.

Totally agree. Puppies draw you in, but it's really all about the dog :)

Ah I agree and we were only saying something similar this morning.Dexter Was snuggled right up into me,I literally had him in a 2 armed hug,he would never have lain like that as a puppy if even he was allowed on the bed with us ...he's much more affectionate now he's older..the time goes too fast though.
Charliemis a wonderful ,handsome dog.....but he was a scrumptious puppy!

Ah yes. I love my 2 dogs, they have such enormous personalities. I have never seen them as puppies, I often think I would just like to have a glimpse, just to see. Someone, somewhere has done a good job of bringing up 2 well-rounded pets, it's a little sad to think they're missing the best years, but their loss is very much my gain. Dogs Rock!

Totally agree Julie . We were on the beach this morning, both dogs were so good . I was thinking back to when we used to take Sam on the beach as a puppy, excitement overload :) I also adored Sam as a puppy but when you build that bond, there is nothing to beat it . I just wished we had known Millie as a puppy, but on the other hand ...............;)

I loved having Hattie as a puppy and watching my children play and snuggle up with her, you can't beat it :D But the bond we have with her as she's grown older is irreplaceable and so very special, I wouldn't change it for the world :D We got Charlie at 9 months and he was as mad as a box of frogs so we missed out on the real puppy stage. Again the bond is so strong as he has grown and he too is a very special but CRAZY dog!! I just love dogs and can't imagine my life without one :):D:):D xxxx

I totally agree. I love my pup but remember from my first lab that I didn't really fall in love with him until he was a dog. Dogs ARE better than puppies. Knowing this helps push through the puppy phase as well. The best is yet to come!

Some encouraging words for all the puppy owners who are wanting to slow down time and keep them young forever.

It amazes me that those two tiny bundles I held when they were born can now stretch out and reach the entire length of our three-seater sofa. I'm loving how the training increases our bond and every now and then, especially on difficult days, I reflect on how fantastic they already are and how far we have all come together.
