I took Lady out this evening to do a spot of retrieving training and she did everything beautifully. It made me feel so proud of her. On odd occasions things seem to come together and, hey, just for one day I've got a real gun dog. She sat until released on marked retrieves. She stopped and cast beautifully. She hunted on the hunt whistle. She returned, sat in front of me and held the dummy until I took it. 8) Just for one day! But it was enough! Tomorrow will be another story, I'm sure. ;D Tonight, however, we have a dinner party. Lady is already hyped up to the ceiling. She will be a nightmare until everyone is settled down. I'll have to do my best and remember this afternoon.
Re: Dogs can be very uplifting to the spirits at times! How wonderful I love those days when it all just works Hope she enjoys the party you're throwing for her
Re: Dogs can be very uplifting to the spirits at times! Sounds like a brilliant day Enjoy your dinner party - I'm sure Lady will
Re: Dogs can be very uplifting to the spirits at times!
just for one day I've got a real gun dog.
For all the thousands of people trying and training, your Lady is one of the few who goes out there and actually brings home the pheasants.
Re: Dogs can be very uplifting to the spirits at times! How lovely to hear - good girl Lady. Hope tonight goes well. And if it doesn't that you share all the gory details
Re: Dogs can be very uplifting to the spirits at times! I need to train my lab to "retrieve", she gets the toy but then won't bring it back and actually drop it. I haven't tried using treats to work on it.
Re: Dogs can be very uplifting to the spirits at times! What a star. Hope she calmed down quickly this evening
Re: Dogs can be very uplifting to the spirits at times! How kind you are! Lady has a good day retrieving - and you lay on a special party - just for her!!!
Re: Dogs can be very uplifting to the spirits at times! The dinner party was fine once we'd got the SBD out of hyper hello mood. At 5 she's still a bit of a nightmare that we should have sorted when she was a puppy. Anyway lead plus making her sit on her mat and cooperative friends helped and she settled and was pretty good except for ... - a roasting tin unwisely left at Labrador height. - giving a well chewed rawhide bone to a none-doggy friend as a present. - taking back the well chewed rawhide bone. - doing a spot of counter surfing after the meal when we let our guard down. - knowing that she's really pretty and flaunting it! - asking for a midnight cuddle (which she got) So actually not too bad considering what it could be like. ;D
Re: Dogs can be very uplifting to the spirits at times! I think it sounds like you have a dog who is both a proper gundog and a proper pet. Re: Dogs can be very uplifting to the spirits at times! "Hyper hello mood" describes it really well! ;D
Re: Dogs can be very uplifting to the spirits at times! A Lady knows you should greet ones guests properly 8)
Re: Dogs can be very uplifting to the spirits at times! Ah Lady sounds like she enjoyed her party immensely ...how thoughtful that you left the roasting tin out for her....how helpful that she decided to help you with the washing up x
