As a first time puppy owner, I've been completely amazed at how fast our boy is growing, and changing shape! Pongo arrived with us four and a half weeks ago, aged nine and a half weeks. Since then he has grown noticeably every single day. For a while (last week) he was just getting taller and leggier and looking like a real sprawly teenager.... now this week he has started filling out and looking decidedly chunky.... I think (and hope) that it is normal and good muscle chunkiness, not over-weight! We are not over-feeding him, and he gets lots and LOTS of exercise helping us in our big hilly garden. He's a 'show' type labrador, bred with the traditional chunky lines, and he still has a waist when looked at from above and I can feel all his ribs (though not see them). When looked at from the side, his tummy does tuck up - just! - before his back legs. He has really big paws and everyone tells us "he's going to be a big boy, isn't he?" Does this all sound normal to you experienced folks out there? Rosie, Paul and Pongo...
Re: Don't they change shape FAST!?!?! Yup he's normal. We like the same type of classic Labrador and ours is now 42 months and weighs fully grown at 35 kgs. In rugby terms Benson is a front row forward and would bowl you over at full speed! All Labradors are dustbin dogs so you have to be careful about the amount you feed him and stick with it. Good luck and enjoy. Roger
Re: Don't they change shape FAST!?!?! Thanks Morwenstow - that's good to know. Pongo has gone from looking like Peter Crouch last week to Wales' Adam Jones this week!
Re: Don't they change shape FAST!?!?! Yes, spot on They seem to swing from leggy foal like skinny beings to more solid muscular dogs almost overnight Sam is now two and a half years old and weighs a hefty 38 kilos but is a working bred tall lad with no spare fat on him, he now looks lovely to me anyway, but as an adolescent , he looked all legs
Re: Don't they change shape FAST!?!?! I'm sure it was Jade who posted several pictures of Amy around her first birthday showing how she had changed over the months. That was a great example of the changes they go through. Now..... just wondering whether I can find it!
