Today is a day that a Scottish person would call "dreich". The kind of day I used to look out the window at people walking their dogs and be glad I just had to open a door to let the ferrets have a run, while I stayed cosied up in the warm. It's not the cold I mind - you can dress for that. It's not the wet - you can dress for that, too. It's the wind. I hate the wind. And so do the doggies. But, we went on our morning perambulations, we did a bit of training and it wasn't so bad after all.
Re: Dreich! Ah yes those days : I was in Wales with similar weather and I met two lovely ladies a little older than myself twiddling up a very steep hill on their mountain bikes. I remarked on the weather and they said that the day wasn't too bad I should have been here yesterday as it was gopping!! ;D this is now my favourite word for grim weather ;D
Re: Dreich! Hmmmm... As a weather-hardened Brit I can feel the cliched words 'There's no bad weather, only the wrong sort of clothing' springing automatically to mind. :

I've yet to find a coat that can hold you upright when the wind's trying to blow you over
Re: Dreich! Gopping - love it. As a born and bred New South Welshperson I wonder if I could get away wth using that term...

Re: Dreich! It's a brilliant word! I often use it for nasty foodstuffs. "Macaroni and cheese? That's just gopping!"
Re: Dreich!
Nothing worse than an inclement Mac 'n Cheese!!!!
Maybe soggy sprouts? No chance of that this Christmas - I have a new recipe to try out. Brussels with gin!!
Re: Dreich! I'm *trying* to encourage H to try a sprout. Just one. I think this may be the way. Don't worry, we always have PLENTY of gin
Mac and cheese is yumcha....what's wrong with you all? ;D Nothing like a dog to get you out in all weathers and enjoying it Fiona x
Re: Dreich! Mac and cheese is only permissible when it's Jamie's version which has cauliflower and bacon in it. Then it is yummers.
Re: Dreich! Love macaroni cheese. In fact that is what I'm going to have for tea. Thanks guys for the inspiration. Try walnuts with your spouts and bacon yum yum. One weather expression I have never understood is when it's foggy and people say "it's like pea soup" what? Why not just say it's foggy out? Lol.
