My 1 year old chocolate lab has developed dry, scaly skin on parts of her back and when we scratch it for her some of she scales require more picking/scratching than others to fly off like dandruff leaving red spots (I'm assuming they're hot spots?). Could this be a sign of a more serious condition or would more frequent baths with an anti-fungal shampoo do the trick?
Hi Leslie and welcome to the forum! What does your vet say? It could be anything from parasites, allergies or an underlying condition. Certainly, any skin condition that is causing scales, sores through scratching should be seen ASAP to prevent infection.
We haven't been to the vet yet, we just found the scales this morning, but will be going to the vet soon. I just wondered if others had experienced this and what they had to say about the condition or possible successful remedies.
I would strongly suggest you go to vet before you do anything as this could be due a lot of reason from parasites to allergies. If you give your dog the wrong medicine without knowing the real reason it might affect them adversely. You could even read up some ways to help them through this process. *link removed by mod team
