Re: Ducklings
But I'm sorry to say that if any duckling falls off the ramp or is bowled over by the others or ends up flailing on his back, it's 9 out of 10 times going to be Harry. Some ducks are just like that.
O no! This is my fault for forum adopting him. I am SO clumsy! My OH never lets me forget the day I fell over three times on holiday in Spain. I blamed the sangria, but it didn't wash. So sorry to hear your hols are over. Book your next one, it's the only way to get through the first morning at work....
Re: Ducklings Glad to hear it's cooling down a bit for you...you must have sent some heat my way, it was gorgeous out here today!! 12C, woot woot!! It's very strange to get that temp this time of year, winter is definitely NOT over yet, but it is really nice to have a break. AND it was sunny...bliss...thanks Rachel!! Lovely to see the ducklings...I love their big ducky feet!! ;D
Re: Ducklings A fair exchange, Lisa! Enjoy!! Yeah, their feet are massive. First rule of being a baby animal - grow your means of propulsion as fast as possible!
Re: Ducklings I 'borrowed' the big ducks' pool so the little ones could have a swim in it. The big ducks weren't impressed and watched forlornly as their pool was taken over by young whippersnappers. I got a video of them swimming so I'll put that up tomorrow night. Swimming in the big pool is tiring. After their swim it was time for a cuddle and a snooze. Meri was funny and climbed into the middle and everyone shuffled sideways to make room. He had a real life, 360 degree duck down duvet
Re: Ducklings Meri, I admire your style. I think we need some big duck pictures next, just so we can all appreciate how awesome the ducklings will become. You don't really need to go back to work, Rachael - entertaining us with duckling pictures is far more important! Clare
I agree! And I'll let my boss know today that I won't be back tomorrow. I wish. Will get some big duck pics in the next few days and will also see if I can get some sound clips of male v. female adult quacking. The drakes are in the middle of their eclipse moult, where they drop their coloured Mallard feathers and put on drab plumage before losing and regrowing their wing feathers (then moulting again and growing their colours back). Only with this breed they don't ever change colour. They are looking a bit tatty at the moment though. The females aren't moulting yet but they are due for new feathers so they are also not looking their best. But, having said that, they are not too bad as I do try to keep my birds in good nick They key to that is just clean pens and clean bathing water.
Re: Ducklings They look very healthy and so they should be, living in the lap of luxury Loving the sleepy pile of duck down too - just precious
Re: Ducklings Rachael - they are just gorgeous. Stop right now with the photos. I have a pond in my garden - part of me says firmly "this is a wildlife nature pond" - the other half says "ducks would LOVE it here..."
Re: Ducklings
IT HAS BEEN OVER 24 HOURS SINCE MY LAST DUCKLING PICTURE.
Its dreadful, Julie - Rachael clearly hasn't spoken to her boss yet :
Re: Ducklings What's going on I'd like to know? As regular as clock work for the last few weeks. I finish my morning client meetings, get my higgidy sun dried tomato slice from Boots, find a wi-fi spot, and sit down for the forum news. First up (after a quick glance to see how the sick list is doing), some nice cheery duckling pics. Today? Zilch.
Re: Ducklings My boss said that I can't quit my job to be a full-time duckling carer and photographer Will take some more pics at the end of the day today, I promise ;D
