Re: Ducklings Is it a bit like a 'Livery' service for a horse Rachael? They are still your animals but you pay for their board and care away from you home? ???
Re: Ducklings Exactly what it is, Angela I have a friend with a farm who is happy to agist ducks and keep them in her orchard (a fairly young orchard, not mature trees). The area has a high, fox-proof fence. The only trouble is it's quite dry out there and they rely on rain or dam water. The ducks would not get clean water every day (which is not ideal). My friend is a really good friend and knows a lot about chickens but not a lot about ducks. I wouldn't be able to keep a close eye on them as she is an hour away. So it's kind of a question of how much I'd worry about them, balanced against the attraction of being able to keep more birds.... I mean, they'd be fine and safe I'm sure, just not pampered. But my personal standards are for pampering...
Re: Ducklings Few more pics... The ducklings' house and my Duckling Viewing Station. They are allowed into their little run area under supervision only. They get clean water every morning in their green pool but it soon becomes brown. They get clean water twice a day in their square tub (inside their house). Just at the top of the ramp into their house is a black waterer with a float valve. That's meant to be drinking water only. I am sorry to say that Christopher has started swimming in it, which is a little bit antisocial. Harrison, Woodget and Meri on the ground with Christopher (left), Ariel (middle) and Temeraire (right) in the pool. The size differences between them have started to reduce, though Meri and Woodget are still the smallest. They are slowly catching up though
Re: Ducklings Hmm - so they have fresh drinking water on tap, but you have to carry out your own beer?? Clare
Re: Ducklings That's the situation......pretty unfair. Maybe I could train the dog to get my beer. And open it.

Re: Ducklings Don't forget you are in Lambie Ground Zero, Rachel!!! I hope the "O" didn't see that post....
Re: Ducklings
you're right - delete, delete!!!! ;D
Funny, that's what Obi said should happen to you I wouldn't let Lambie in the bed tonight. Clare
Re: Ducklings Or I could just go on the offensive. Might be time for Lambies to have a little date with the washing machine, eh Lambies?
Re: Ducklings
Ooh, fast spin cycle. Disorientate them for days... Clare
But when they recovered? Shudder....angry Lambies...no, I wouldn't make the Lambies angry...O no.
Re: Ducklings I'm thinking it's too late. Lambies are on the hunt. I have had numerous toileting accidents from Milly this morning and she slept with Lambie last night. You better do some serious Lambie pampering and go back to those calming vibes. They were much better. More pics of Obi and less duckling for a little might help too. They are rebelling!!!
Re: Ducklings Oh, I'm sorry, Annette I've invited retaliation from the Lambies... I forgot that they are all-powerful. Will try to remedy this later.
Re: Ducklings Lol! Funny. I have had to put Lambie up for the moment as Milly has already put a hole it the poor thing. I will administer first aid ASAP. Hehe
Re: Ducklings Serves you right, Lambie. Oh, did I say that? Few duckling observations. - Meriwether is a biter of human toes - Meriwether finds the best tidbits to eat and then everyone else tries to steal them. But Meri doesn't let them - Meriwether is usually the first one to walk down the ramp out of their house each morning - Harrison, as predicted, is a terrible chatterbox and quacks loudly for no reason at all - Ariel isn't the first in the water, but, once in, is the most excitable - Ariel likes to eat small mouthfuls of dirt (not that there is anything wrong with that) - Woodget likes to go exploring round the edges of the run. And also likes eating dirt - If Meri is not the first down the ramp in the mornings then it's Woodget - Christopher mainly likes to hang out with Ariel and Temeraire - Christopher often tries to catch flies but is so far not very successful (this will change with practice) - Temeraire is pretty much quacking like a grown up duck now, except quieter and interspersed with peeps
Re: Ducklings Duckling news - lovely. I read that 3 times, with interest. So lovely to feel involved with a bunch of cute ducklings on the other side of the world. Does Harri have a particular friend?
