Now, Rachael, I am quite sure at the beginning you said you were only keeping one!
What have we done to you?
I bet next time you have a litter of duckling you will keep it quiet from us ;)

    Haha, we shall see ;D

Today we were putting up our new carport (in 38 degree heat.....I do to recommend it) and we're able assisted by two wonderful friends who are my duck agistment option. I'm going to go out to their place in the next few weeks to talk about the possibilities.

I really would like to keep Christopher.......

Today the ducklings were out in the backyard for a while and Obi followed and watched them for a while and then tried to engage them in a game with a series of play bows and bounces. He and they got put away at that point. He meant well..... He would also like to report his success in eating about two cups of duckling food out of their dish and stealing an egg out of the duck pen.

Oh no! I can understand why you don't recommend putting up a garage in today's heat. It was horrid.

Obi great foraging skills there. Was the food and egg tasty? What a shame those ducks don't know how to play. Maybe they need a Lambie so you can send those calming vibes over the network. Maybe a floating one for the pond. ;D

Meriwether will be a fabulous duck wherever he ends up living, and I know you wouldn't see him moving into a grotty little bedsit. ;) He'll be happy.

And I've loved seeing them grow, and will enjoy the remaining updates and then the updates on those you keep. Hopefully some day we'll get to see the next set of hatchlings... although we'll try and be really good and not name them, so we don't make it even harder for you. Sorry xxx

Definitely I'll be finding good homes for any that aren't staying. :) Naming them hasn't made it too much harder - you get attached to them and have favourites either way...

Hoping that Carport Phase Two doesn't take all day today so I can have some duckling time later. Another hot one coming up today....

Carport is done after two days' work in 38 degree heat.

Sorry, I know you want duckling shots ;)

Here's everyone. Looking quite grown up these days, but still only babies at 6 weeks. In front is Christopher on the right and Woodget on the left. In the pond from left to right are Harrison, Meriwether, Ariel and Temeraire. The chickens in the background were just staying overnight and were in transit between homes.

Christopher on the left and Woodget on the right. They are saying "HAND OVER THE PEAS, LADY. WE KNOW YOU HAVE SOME". The pink thing on the right is my hand, with peas. My foot is very dirty because it's been nibbled by half a dozen ducklings (but mainly Harrison and Meri. Meri bites toes in case they are grubs - quite hard too!).

    That's more like it!

    Peas all gone :(

Christopher looking hopeful just in case I have stashed some spare peas somewhere.

A bit blurry but this is Temeraire top left, Christopher bottom left, Ariel with the large bib, Woodget to his right, Meri is obvious :) and Harrison has her head in the jug that had their pea treats in it (just checking in case I missed one...and making it nice and muddy too).

Another group shot. Sorry about the knees..... I promise that their water was clear half an hour before this was taken. They put mud in it. And poop. Ariel has his head down because he is collecting mud from the lovely mud hole he made under the pond.

Carport looks fab. Obimobile looking lovely too.

Those ducks enjoy mud like a lab puppy by the look of it! Awww....

I dare say that ducklings love mud even more than Labradors. And they can make mud out of anything. Anything!

I have to get a pic of Obi in his Obimobile.... He's had a few rides in it now and he seems very comfortable in it :) The car has officially been furred.

LOL, I should wear my gumboots, but it's been so hot... I should put down some mulch to cover the dirt to curb their mud manufacturing abilities...although it won't stop Meri from biting... Christopher bites too but only my shorts with which he enjoys a little game of tug 'o war.

It's amazing how quickly the ducklings are growing! At what age do you, er, let them go??

    Re: Ducklings

Probably it not for another month - I want them fully grown. Plus, I want to see how they shape up, literally, as adults. Type or shape is an important factor in deciding who else (besides Temeraire) to keep. Woodget, for example, doesn't have great markings, but she looks like she will have an excellent head and a nice, stocky body like her Mum.

I can't wait to see them! They grow so incredibly fast.

The carport looks awesome! What a hot weekend you had to put them up.

Rachael, your ducklings are beautiful and all such different colours, I especially like the pale grey one. Ducks like mud I do remember that with ours :) x

Are we lobbying for our duckling? We can't! That would be terrible - if I started pointing out what a unique and amazing colour Harri is, with the sweetest nature of all of them, that would be bad, bad, bad...so I won't do that, no, no, no. ;D ;D ;D
