I have a show coming up on the 10th May - the NSW Waterfowl Breeders' Show. I'll be putting Christopher in it and his Dad, Solander, and possibly Christopher's Mum, Duyfken (depending on how she comes out of her current moult).

The large blond chicken takes the prize, despite deviation from the breed standard. We do want judges to be more flexible, don't we??!

Wow - amazing! :D Work with it, Lambies, Camels and Snakes!

Blond chickens are not good layers. Not in any way you would really want, that is....

We can follow the show career of Christopher.

Where's the breed standard docs? Does he have a good otter tail? ;D ;D ;D

I can't post the Standards (as they are copyrighted) or post a link to them (as there isn't an online version) but here is a bit of a summary of the American Standard http://www.albc-usa.org/cpl/waterfowl/swedish.html.

Christopher has a good tail. The thing you want to avoid with a Blue Swedish tail is an overly high carriage (i.e. the tail should tilt up a little but not be carried cocked up vertically). So, not so different to a Labrador :)

Sorry, Jac, every day I think 'they're gonna ask for more photos soon, better get onto that' ;D

All five are still here and doing well. Harrison is a very loud quacker, just saying ::) Their recall is now really excellent.

Had a report that Ariel is doing very well and likes to position himself, sitting, in the yard where he can see through the back door and watch the humans.

Will get some pics of them all this weekend :)

    Re: Ducklings

Here's your duck, Julie ;) From left to right: Temeraire, Woodget, Harrison of course, Meriwether (right, at back) and Christopher. They are all fully grown now and are all pretty much the same size, even though they were different as ducklings. Harrison is a touch lighter in build than the others.

Temeraire front left (with the black spot on her head), Woodget the blue one behind her, Harrison (light coloured or Silver one for those new to this thread), Meri looking smart in black and getting a nice green head, and Christopher to his left (with the brighter orange feet). Christopher is still getting his 'adult' plumage and so is looking a bit scruffy. He is turning out a lovely dark blue.

Having a swim. From left to right: Woodget, Meri, Harrison, Temeraire preening her feathers and Christopher.

Christopher has his head stretched out along the water. That means that he is feeling pretty excited and is about to make some big splashes.

    Like this...

Meri cops a facefull while everyone else stands back sensibly.

    Calm restored.

    Thank you! Thank you!

Hasn't Harri turned out lovely? I think silver is a lovely colour for a duck.

    Great water action shots!

    :)

If you look at Meri's (the black one) tail in the photo where he's getting splashed you can see one black feather poking up a bit. That is his curly drake feather. Both he and Christopher are getting their grown-up, curly tail feathers.
