Poor duckies! Glad they got over their fright....I suppose anything unusual in the sky would be cause for concern. Hopefully that turtle thingy won't float over anytime soon...

Glad they were not too traumatised by the big yellow balloon :)
Good luck with the shuffle around :)

I think they'd go into total meltdown over the turtle thingy (aka SkyWhale). They are very very very tuned in to 'predation from above'.

    Thanks, Naya :)

How many ducks do you have, that is before they are sent on their holidays?

    Re: Ducklings

Tomorrow is the big day :) Everything gets set up today though, so we are heading off in about 4 hours. The show is in Goulburn, about an hour away. The ducks will be put in their show pens when we arrive and will stay there till about 3pm tomorrow, when the show ends. Judging is tomorrow (Saturday) morning.

At the moment I'm getting everything ready.

    - towels (and there are more towels in the car)
    - carry boxes
    - water containers for drinking
    - food containers
    - box of food
    - watering can to fill water containers
    - scraper to scrape poop out of the cage
    - roll of plastic bags to put poopy things in
    - jar of olive oil for putting on bills and feet (to bring out their colour)

I also have to add a spray bottle. Spraying the ducks lightly when you arrive encourages them to preen and rearrange the feathers that got messed up in travel. I'll also take an apron to wear when I'm unloading them and putting them in their show cages (high risk of being pooped on).

The young ducks. Christopher is on the far right, somewhat oblivious of his impending adventure.

This photo below is form the same show last year. On the left is Solander, the indoor duckling's Daddy. On the right is Duyfken, their Mummy.

    Solander won a prize.

Why can't I go to a show? I am better looking than all those stupid ducks.

Pizza is exactly what they have planned for dinner! And beer for humans.

Solander was not happy this morning when I caught him to give him a once-over. All his kids stood around watching, which was very embarrassing for him.

Will definitely take lots of pics :)

Yep, Duyfken (which means 'little dove' in Dutch) was in box 3 :)

Well we're at the show and everyone is settled in their pens after a pea snack.

    Duyfken:

And all three. They are the only Blue Swedish in the show which is a little bit disappointing.

And some white Indian Runners belonging to my friend Marg:

Is there 3 placings in every class?if so ,you've nailed it but it's nice to blow the competition out the water ( excuse the attempt at duck humour).....great experience though for young Christopher and a great day out too.Enjoy dinner and looking forward to result placings tomorrow x

    Re: Ducklings

They are in two classes - Blue Swedish Duck and Blue Swedish Drake, so Solander and Christopher will have to slug it out in the Drake class :) And then there's a ribbon for Best Blue Swedish. The judges are not compelled to award anything though.

I like Marg's ducks too. All white with long necks. Very cute.
