    Aww....need an ice-breaker Mum.

(can I admit to getting bizarrely excited to see a post on the ducklings thread? When are you expecting a new clutch? ;) )

I got all excited then seeing this post come up. Lol thought we might have had new babies ???

It's very cold. I have had to bleak the ice on Millys water bowls the last 3-4 days. Even the one under the veranda.

They love ice :) The cold doesn't bother them. Obi had to break the ice on the pond for them though, by stepping on it (not thick enough to hold a Labrador!).

She's going really well, Lisa :) Very friendly girl who is always on the lookout for treats :)

Ice! Wow...did someone say ducks have a kind of anti-freeze in their feet or have I made that up? ::)

Haha, not antifreeze, just blood, but their blood vessels operate as a kind of heat exchange unit. Here's an article about it :)

    Oooooo!!!!!!!

How could you have kept this from us? I thought you'd been a bit quiet!

Come on, more details. Let's have some close ups! How many do you have? Just those 3? What colour will they be? Are they from your own eggs? Who are the parents?

No names. Right. Ok. No names.

    Re: Ducklings

Only 3. They only just came out of the incubator :) Two are blue and one will end up white (the yellow one). The yellow one and blue one with small bib are siblings to the Indoor Ducklings and the other blue one is a sibling to the Outdoor ducklings. The blue one with the small bib has a bit of an issue called 'stargazing' where they look up a lot and then fall backwards. It's fixed with vitamin B so that one is getting regular vitamins via eye dropper to the bill. Fingers crossed it should come good.

I had actually had lots more eggs in the incubator from two other ducks - Trim and Temeraire. None of Trim's were fertile as she is too fat ::) (in ducks that hugely affects fertility). None of Temeraire's were fertile because she runs away from the drake ::) (she gets into the pond to get away as he doesn't like swimming and she knows she can avoid him that way....). Too clever!! :)

    Re: Ducklings

    Incorrigible!!!!! ;)

The yellow and small bibbed blue ones are the offspring of Duyfken and Solander (Solly). The big bibbed blue is the child of Tasman and Magellan (Jelly). I think that the big bib blue one is probably a boy, going on the bib, but I hope I'm wrong.

If one of the chooks goes broody I might give her some eggs but we'll see - that won't happen till later in the year I don't think.

At the moment they're mostly resting under their heat lamp. Tomorrow morning they can have their first swim. :)
