We had a lovely time :) That's the lake that Canberra is built around. It's about 30km all the way round and it's an artificial lake, but it's got a lot of nice picnic spots.

That glowing ball is the moon coming up :)

41 degrees forecast for today. Too hot!!! It's dry as a bone as well. Definitely no mud problem. But we desperately need some rain. It hasn't rained since Christmas. Would love a big thunderstorm.

I read about that - you can see it when there isn't horizon to horizon cloud cover right?

Lol. I think about now would be nice to have some cloud cover. I would even take the snow. I don't like the cold but ATM I would happily put a jumper on. It's HOT!

I don't think I would handle that well either. It's just exceptionally hot here. I do have good air con in the house. But just don't want to leave the house. The heat is like a punch in the face when you go out there. Sorry that was all pointless complaint. I will attempt to remember I hate the cold more while I stay inside in the cool. Lol

    Re: Ducklings

Thanks for the chilly thoughts!! :D

We're just inside in the air con. Obi is very sleepy on hot days. Still gets an early walk. All the adult ducks get their water changed and the ground around their ponds hosed down a few times, the chooks are in their house with their mister on and ice in their drinker and the ducklings get 4 or 5 water changes in their tub. Garden gets a good water. Will be cooler next week :)

Angela, I don't know how you do it in your summer....we just have a taste of it compared to you. Unfortunately Obi's daycare was shut down 2 weeks ago by the council due to neighbour noise complaints :'( They are trying to find another location. He still has his Thursday walk and playgroup with another organisation, Pups4Fun, and until the daycare starts again (hoping) he will be taken for a group walk by Pups4Fun on Mon and Weds as well. Plus he'll have his morning walk with us, his obedience and flyball classes and dog park visits. We are very sad about the loss of the daycare - he loved it.

Oh Obi, where are your pipe and slippers? And silk dressing gown. Only you could drape yourself over the furniture quite like that ;D .

Methinks that Meri is by no means the largest of the indoor ducklings any more. I don't suppose by any miraculous chance Meri has been heard to quack???

    They all look just gorgeous!

Does Harry look a little small? Is he growing ok? Worry...worry...one of the others nearly pushed him off the ramp on the way down! Is he getting his fair share of peas?

Obi, you look goooood in green silk!

Obi isn't allowed to smoke in the house, Clare.
You are right that Meri is now the smallest :) But not by a lot (black is very slimming). There is actually quite a bit of variation amongst the former indoor group in size. Christopher is the biggest, then Harry and Woodget, then Meri. I'd say that Harry, Woodget and Meri are all pretty normal for their age (with Meri maybe being on the petite side), while Christopher is big for his age. The two 'outdoor' ones, Ariel and Temeriare, are flippin' huge for their age - they are more like 4 week old ducklings than 3 week olds. They should all end up pretty much the same though. Just that growth rates are differing.

Don't worry, Julie, Harry is growing fine! :) He is getting enough peas. But I'm sorry to say that if any duckling falls off the ramp or is bowled over by the others or ends up flailing on his back, it's 9 out of 10 times going to be Harry. Some ducks are just like that. Harrison's Grandad, Jelly (also silver in colour) is the same and is always being run over, tripped and generally ground into the dirt by the four energetic ladies he lives with. Ducks are just clumsy. But don't fret, he's going very well and is a happy duckling :)

In terms of sex, the only one that is 100% sure to be a girl is Temeraire. I am pretty sure that Ariel is a boy - if he was not he'd be quacking like his sister. Normally you get quacks by 4 weeks of age and, as I mentioned, those two are as big as 4 week olds. I wouldn't expect any unambiguous signs of quacking from the 'indoor' lot for another week though.

The weather has finally cooled down a bit (only 33 today ::)) which is a relief. I'll be spending most of the day duckling watching :D Gotta go back to work tomorrow :( but at least I get to come home to my quackers :D Oh and Obi :D And hubby ;D

Of course. Silly me. The pipe is out on the porch next to the rocking chair...

Enjoy your last full day of duckling watching and dog cuddling for a while!
