Our vet said that you'd need to give many, many tins of sardines each day to come close to the vitamin/fatty acid content of fish oil tablets. We started on fish oil capsules as Obi has a seasonal allergy and takes antihistamines for it and the fish oil helps them to be more effective. We had asked if the daily sardines were enough and the vet said definitely not enough to have any therapeutic effect whatsoever on allergy. Nothing wrong with feeding them though as they're a good food.

So the upshot of that is that fish oil capsules are concentrated and you can have too many, but whole fish is not concentrated and is fine to feed along with the capsules.

We use the sardines in oil. I will add that Obi's breakfast is based on kangaroo meat which is incredibly lean. It has almost no fat.

I don't think olive oil has much, if any, vitamin A which is what you don't want to overdose on.
