Ok, have bought a dummy but now what do I do with it?!!! Sorry another novice posting.... Thanks Helen
Re: Dummy - now what? Well - the obvious thing would be to throw it and have him bring it back to you!! ;D ;D But this is Charlie we are talking about, so he may react differently to most labradors, who seem to retrieve without ever needing to be taught how to do so. I would try him out with it, but make it a 'special' retrieving tool, that he is only allowed to use when he is 'working' with you, and he certainly shouldnt be allowed to run around with it in his mouth (except for bringing it back to you) or play with it as a toy. My dogs just seemed to know instinctively that this is something far more important that a stick or a ball, and get terribly excited whenever they see the dummy... I hope Charlie thinks so too.
Re: Dummy - now what? Karen, your comment made me laugh but I know what you mean this is Charlie!!! I will do the obvious and throw it and he might surprise me - ha ha ha - watch this space!!!! ;D ;D Pippa, thank you for the article. Helen
Re: Dummy - now what? I only mention this in passing you understand. ;D Lady killed her first dummy on the first retrieve. : Seriously I only use the dummy when we are trainng. She'd kill it again if she thought it was a toy! They are so very amusing you know.
Re: Dummy - now what? Thanks for the advice, and David I certainly do not want to kill any dummy so will keep it for training!!! will let you know how he gets on as we haven't tried yet. Helen
